Skoda Octavia II 2005 Soaking

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a big problem, I hope You can suggest some solution.

There was a huge rain and there was a flood in the street. The water flow into the garage, and it was high enough, to flow into the car.

The floor carpet is totally wet. I tried to collect the water, but as I push the carpet I feel there are still water under it. It is not possible to remove the carpet as I know.

Is there any plug I can remove to let the water flow out, and maybe later I hope the carpet will dry.

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

Tamas

Rent a carpet cleaner that can just suck the water out of the carpet.

I had a leak in the rear of my Fabia last year and there was quite a lot of water in the rear foot wells. After I used a sponge to remove all the water I could, I used my Vax carpet cleaner and it sucked another litre of water from the carpet/insulation in each foot well. It worked great.

The carpet can be removed. Seats out.. side trims out + unless you want to remove the dash then you will need to cut the carpet under the centre dash 1 side or both sides with a stanley knife. You wont see the split once it has been re fitted because the cut will be behind the centre console side trims.

Done this many a time on the old 3B passats when they let water in through the pollen filter. Used to be carpets and underlay hung up all over the workshop. Its the underlay that takes the longest to dry.. the carpet isnt too bad

Yeah, pretty easy to get the carpet out. Did it years ago when I had a mystery one off leak without having any guidance, just looked at it logically and worked it out. One suggestion, can't remember which bit exactly, but I cut a line in one bit to get it in & out easier; pretty sure it was a bit around the handbrake, under the jumbo box as it had been fitted to the car THEN had the handbrake lever fitted on top. Couldn't get it off without removing the handbrake stuff so just cut a neat, straight line in the carpet and it looked no different but could be pulled over the gaitor area. Think that's what I did, but it was very common sense to cut it when I saw it, if that makes sense.

At  a minimum, remove the seats & prop the carpet up with pieces of timber or drink bottles or string attached to the door handles & then get a blower heater or fans (several) into the cabin.  Even the wifes hair-dryer.

You need to get the evaporation happening.

Of course, any excess water should be soaked up with towels or a wet vac first.

If you pull all the carpet out it's a good opportunity to add some decent sound deadening to the vehicle

Once you're done, get some of those big tubs of silica crystals as there's bound to still be some lingering moisture

If it's possible then keep your car outside in the sun with all doors opened. In hot sun car heats up very much and that would allow the rest of the water to evaporate quickly.

You really do need to get the carpets out or at least lifted up.

You need to get to the wiring looms underneath and check the connectors make sure they are dry and give them a good squirt with WD40 to stop any corrosion.

Hi Guys,

Is it possible to remove the front seats. It contains side airbag-s. I can simply disconnect the airbags cable? It does not cause any error later?

Thanks for Your help

Br,

Tamas

Yes, it will fine but disconnect the battery first but don't turn on the ignition once you unplug the seat airing connectors otherwise you will get a airbag light on the dash.

Once you refitted your seats and plug you can re-connect your battery but you Will get lots of warning lights come on which will clear once you start driving.

Cool thanks,

Only one question. What is the name of the "wrench" or screw I can remove the seats? it look like a 12 star allen key?

Thanks

It's a M spline. Can't quite remember the size, either a M12 or M14.

It's a 10mm / m10 spline bit, make sure its a spline bit and not torx as if you damage the head of the bolt you will be screwed.
