Air con problems

Featured Replies

Afternoon all. Have been lurking and access the forum via Google searches and found it very helpful and so far answered all the questions I've had mostly with my mk1 fabia estate.

Problem with wife's car though after air con "service" by main dealer Telfords of Carlisle. I've sent this email to skoda UK.

On the 8th of August my wife's citigo was taken for a full service and air con service.

The air conditioning system was in full working order pri to this work being carried out. After a week or so it was apparent that there was a fault with the air con system as it was no longer blowing cold and was making sounds that lead me to believe there was low gas level in the system. Telfords were quite helpful saying that we should bring the car back in for them to look at FOC to see if there was a fault on system. Upon taking the car in they agreed there was a fault and would vac down, pressurise system and see if the fault could be found. After 2 hours they claim that fault couldn't be found. System was re gassed and we were told to fetch back in after a couple of weeks to further investigate.

Once we had fetched car home I looked at the system and found that the fault is with the service connector on high pressure line (I have a video of the gas and dye escaping!). I rang Telfords back to tell them my findings and was told that I would be contacted Monday.

Today I've been told for any further investigation there will be a £65 diagnostic fee and as car is out of warranty parts and labour to rectify fault.

I feel that this fault has been caused by there servicing of the system and that this fault should have been identified during there 2hour diagnostic Saturday.

Can you please advise me of how I can proceed forward from this point as the dealership is refusing to assist me in resolving this issue and due to there work I now have a none operational aircon system that if left will cause further expensive damage.

Has anyone else had this issue? I understand that the valve core can be replaced does anyone have a part number or thread so I can swap it and get a local specialist to re gas. I'm qualified to work on air con stuff but systems at work are very different connectors etc!

Bit of an update. Been in touch with rainworth skoda parts department very helpful.

PDF of system sent to me to identify part (would upload but can't find button to do it?) and the insert part I need is £12.66. Not got part number yet but will upload when I have one.

Sorry that you've had this problem...it's the exact reason I always refuse an AC "service". My argument is...if the AC needed a service regularly, it should be part of the usual servicing schedule rather than an expensive "add-on". I've NEVER had any AC serviced...I sold our two Mk1 Fabias when 8 and 9 years old and the AC on both worked perfectly.

Madkayaker, Take a look at dennisdavisdesigns, might interest/amuse you.

I've built a wooden canoe before was good fun but it's fell to bits after a few years due to not having room to store inside
