After your 3 years AA cover expires, who do you go with?

Featured Replies

I renewed the Skoda Assist for the SuperB back in June when mine ran out..... I paid £80 or £85 i can't remember which but when you remember that the Skoda Assist cover is the equivalent of the AA or RAC maximum cover inc. European cover, Hotel, Hire car etc, etc... it's a massive saving.

Just cancelled the RAC cover on the mrs' vRS today.... RAC wanted £122 for the renewal (Roadside, Relay & Home cover on a 2005 Fabia vRS) I can get the same cover and including hire car etc.... from Asda (Britannia Recovery) for £70 or Green Flag for £79.50. The RAC initially came down to £104 and then when i said ok cancel the renewal they said well we could come down to £90 but no less. I said no i'll still cancel the renewal please and the guy got a bit moody and just said "ok then" and went!!!

It isn't due till next week so will give it a few days to see if they try and keep me with them but if not i'll just go with the Asda / Britannia cover for £70 i think.

As a member of local dive cub found out with a little digging, The AA did not cover islands (Isle of Wight may be an exception), so getting cover for the Scottish Islands where he was planning diving he went with the RAC.

Also worthy of note. Unless you're in a very major city, or the south east, the RAC don't have patrols at night any more.

As I found the other night when the sundance kid rocked up in a kangoo after two hours, drove my car forwards 6 feet, told me the loud clunking was definitely the driveshaft and it was fine to drive.

Much arguing and waiting ensued until we got recovered.

As a result of me questioning everything the rac and the cowboys told me, I got a visit from a real rac patrol the next day.

He nipped up my driveshaft bolts (with an Allen key, they don't carry spline bits), and declared that he had fixed it.

That night on the way to work, my bottom ball joint collapsed, resulting in the previous night's game of dickheads being repeated.

This even went as far as the rac promising the contractor would send a skilled, equipped person, definitely not the same one as last night... Only for the sundance kid to phone me two hours later to ask what tools he should bring.
