After your 3 years AA cover expires, who do you go with?

Featured Replies

I've been looking around at AA, RAC, Green Flag and AutoAid, anyone recommend one of the above? I've read good things about AutoAid and am swaying towards them also because of price

Thanks for any advice

Who does best on the Isle of Wight?

Do the AA / RAC have Vans,

& do Green Flag / AutoAid etc use local Independents that comes out & responds quickly,

or is it cover for on the Mailand that you care more about ?

I use Tesco Reward to purchase Full Family top of the Range Cover from the RAC,

5 named family Members in their or other peoples vehicles, Onward travel etc etc.

Works pretty good where there is Mobile Phone reception, sadly where there is not it as not much cope.

AA have their own vehicles as I used them 6 months ago when my battery ran down, pretty sure the RAC do too although I don't recall seeing one for a while.

Not sure on the others but I think they would use local independents.

It would mainly be cover for mainland trips whenever I do them, I have friends that could sort me out at home if needed but it was very handy to have the AA cover when I needed it

GEM motor assist. £106 down to £86 if you order through quidco. Better featured and cheaper than RAC/AA. Won the AE Driver Power survey 6 yrs on the trot.

RAC could not price match and even match the features

My RAC cover (I took it as an add-on to the Car Care extended warranty) expires at the end of September - as I never stray far from home I'll probably just run with the breakdown cover provided as part of my Nationwide current account (think it's Britannia).

Britannia Rescue for me - £73.50 per year for their top tier cover (inc European cover, home start, relay, recovery etc) if you are a CSMA member. Britannia Rescue provides the breakdown cover that is included in Nationwide's Flex Plus bank account (£10 a month). The cover is the same level as the £73.50 CSMA deal.

Whichevers cheapest for the top level cover for the family we use.

ita like insurance... Stay loyal and pay an ever increasing loyalty fee

Insurers will haggle though - I do it every year - I'm sure RAC and AA must've some room for manoeuvre.

They do have room to manoevre. Ours tripled one year with no call outs on it, then quickly untripled itself and abit more when they got a phonecall stating Greenflags price.

That was a few years ago, but we're with greenflag atm. Covers all the family, motorbikes, cars and any vehicle a member is in, oh and i think they take the vehicle to a garage of our choice, then take us home too.

Always had Britannia, owned now by LV, either through CSMA or Nationwide. Always good service, but never had anything fixed at the roadside as, if I break them, I do it well.

I just renewed with the AA, thought I'd call them first to see what they could offer and the chap said 75% off!!

Ended up £64 for the same cover as Skoda provided, home start, roadside, onward travel etc

you should get a quote from the RAC for extending the skoda assist when you are within a few months of the 3 years, will be based on age of car and milage,

but it is the full skoda assist

from skoda's site

Is Skoda Assist not done by the AA now?

Always do mine through Tesco club card points with the RAC as there's no 'hike' in the following annual premium if you have to call them out. Joint Roadside/recovery/at home for me and SWMBO in any vehicle cost me £58 in their vouchers this year.

You get 5 call outs with the RAC cover.

Is Skoda Assist not done by the AA now?

Mine is (Sept 2012), I never used it on my Monte's (2011 and 2013) but have a feeling that was AA too

It changed last year as i remember from the RAC to the AA.

I got the same letter bluecar1 mentioned above but didn't want to sign up for continuous direct debit to get the cheapest option. After looking around I've gone for AutoAid. That's got both my car & SWMBO's covered for £41. With luck I won't have to call them, as I've only had three callouts in 30+ years, and didn't use Skoda Assist at all with the Yeti.

but is not the skoda assist not far better than std AA cover and they carry more skoda specific parts on the van etc

Location Location Location as to which van does respond.  So yes if it is a Fully Equipped Van then perfect.

How many parts do you want them to have, or how far from someplace to be recovered to will depend much on Location Location Location.
