Traction Control Button - no light?

Featured Replies

Good evening :) Just a quick question I hope some of you can help with...

When you press the traction control button to disable the system(s), does the symbol on the actual button itself light up? I have the light on the dash and the message that flashes up on the maxi-dot, but the symbol on the button itself does nothing.

All the other buttons (start-stop, locking, parking aids etc) all light up when you press them, just thought it was strange that that would be the only one that doesn't work in the same way as all the others...

Evening,

Yes, my traction control button lights up when I turn it off, and I also get the the light on the dashboard :)

My button doesn't light up, never has, but I do get the light on the instrument cluster.

Doesnt on my late 14 64 plate MK7 Golf GTD....I only get the light in the dash and warning appear in the maxidot.

Could be a model year/mid model year build change thats taken place at some point?

I think you could be right there, but why?. If so it's highly irritating, just like the lack of headlight symbol, I cannot think of a single benefit in removing it (them) from use.

Anywho I'll be off to the dealer shortly to pick up my paint touch up pen, i'll double check with them and report back.

Why would passenger need to know the TC is off? Driver knows from dash

Mine doesn't light up that's an April 15 car

Let me get this right:

1) There's no indicator for the headlights being on in the instrument cluster but there is one in the switch and you don't like that??

2) There's no light on the TC switch to say it off but there is a light in the instrument cluster and you don't like that??

Wow!.....

This is correct, but the TC button doesn't annoy me as much, just that all of the buttons light up except that one.....I know I know it's a little strange.. :peek:

Anywho ... the guy at the dealer today said the later models are designed like that; indeed on the earlier Mk III's it had it on the button and the dash, but now it's been removed and is just on the dash.

My Mk3 (delivered March '14) TC button doesn't light up. I also found if you hold the button down, it activates ESC Sport (I think that's what the message said anyway).

Mine is an October '13 car and the button doesn't light up when when TC is off.

I think I may be wrong here, or I am the only one who has a button that lights up! I hope I haven't caused any confusion.

Yes, it does.

When you just press it briefly it basically just turns off the traction control, so that if you floor the throttle the car will not intervene and thus allow the wheels to spin. However if you corner and under/over steer the vehicle will still brake individual wheels and shift the torque between wheels to keep the maximum possible traction and prevent/correct the skid.

When you hold the button and activate 'ESP Sport' it basically turns off more of the ESP systems. If you then fling it round a corner the car will provide little to no intervention and will allow you to slide.

My October 13 VRS TC button lights up.

Pretty sure it does on my MY15 L&K as well, I need to check though. (And I seem to have the same ESP Sport mode setting as a vRS, not sure how that happened :) )

Right, I have just been to check. My button doesn't light up, regardless of what setting the traction control is on. I thought it did light up.

Its a 2014 built April 2014.

Does it have anything to do with the headlights? My headlights were in Auto and were on.

I too have to stand corrected. Don't use it much but I could have sworn mine lit up. Just got the kids to bed and went to check and lone behold no orange light on that switch. My bad!

Tried this the other day & no light for me either but I didn't check the maxidot, so will check that

Aren't the L&K's supposed to have just about everything? Or does that not include the 'sportier' settings?

No, I don't think the two are connected at all.

It only flashes up on the maxidot briefly, it's pretty easy to miss if you aren't looking right at it. Should be a yellow symbol in the rev counter though.

Thanks for that  at least I now know what to look out for & where...cheers

Traction control light doesn't light on my my16 vrs either.

Consequently the park pilot button which is below the Traction control on the far left also does not light up.

Ah now how odd, as mine does. I have both the parking sensors and park pilot button and both light up if you turn them on...I assume all the other ones work?

Can't think why they'd mess with something that worked to simply make it not work, it can't realistically save them any time or money by removing little lights under buttons??

button? button? Luxury. I don't even have a button lit or unlit, it's all done via the head unit

on the headlight switch lighting up, it is lit regardless of whether the lights are on or off on my MY16, the only way to tell if your headlights are on is to switch to nav and see if the map is in might mode or not

Do you have the auto lights? If mines left in auto then the 'Auto' light is orange, when the headlights are switched on the 'sidelight' symbol lights up green, but they never change colour.
