Yeti Amundsen Sat Nav

Featured Replies

Thanks for the replies re removal of the SD card. Quite bizarre that the manual and everything else I read says 'remove the SD card' but no ones knows how to do it. I even spoke to the chap at Skoda Bordeaux and he doesn't know. Perhaps the slot is for show anyway.

Il take Ryeman' advice and buy another tomTom!

And don't take any notice of that 'grumpy old bugger' ....D

If you have sat nav and no SD card in the slot, are you sure you don't have an Amundsen Plus unit rather than an Amundsen? The Amundsen runs sat nav off the disc (or sd card as I recall) while the Amundsen Plus stores the maps on the internal memory. This is updated via a single use SD card which is then tied exclusively to your unit (ie worthless to anyone else).

I'd ignore the antipodean!!

I wouldn't think there needs to be anything in the manual about how to remove an SD card as I thought everybody would know.

Just press it in and it will pop out enough to grasp and remove.

I suspect others thought you were fooling with them :D

How do I update this sat nav!

The manual say's 'set up/systems/remove sd card. I don'have the option to remove sd card on mine.

if I manage to take it out, do I update in on my computer or apply for a new one?

I had a none DAB Amundsen in my first yeti.

If you have the none DAB model then to update it you need an updated disc and a new empty SD card then insert both in the unit, The option to transfer data to card should pop up, Select yes to transfer (it took about 45mins when I did it) then remove the disc so you can play music CD's.

The pre Dab version does not store the Nav data in the unit, only on the SD card. You can add MP3 music onto the same card if its got spare space, so you have all options covered.

If you buy an updated version on SD card you might not be able to add extra music onto it.

What version do you have? I have a spare 2011 version 3. on two discs and the Europe disc has never been used.

The Amundsen+ with DAB is different. It is updated by inserting an updated card and then transfer the data to the hard drive in the unit overwriting the old data. Then remove the card and put your music one in.

Hope this was helpful.

I assuming this is what my car has (or are the latest ones a completely different unit?), it only being a few weeks old. If so, according to the instruction booklet, SD1 has to be left in for the sat nav to work, which is what I would expect as that was true for my A6 and for the TT the disc has to be left in and I can't play CD's and use the sat nav at the same time. It may transfer data to the unit to allow it function faster but the SD card or CD has to be in place for the sat nav to work.

To be honest one SD card is enough anyway as it holds loads of music.

As regards the removal of SD cards, the menu item is just like found on a PC. It doesn't eject the card, it just makes sure that the card isn't being read etc. and therefore can be safely removed.

As said, you have to press it so that it pops out!

VAGCF,

The latest Amundsen has a much bigger screen and looks similar to the Columbus.

The older Amundsen I had in my 2011 and the Amundsen+ I have now in my 2014 look identical but different inside.

On both of these you can have Nav and play CD's at same time.

The '+' model has the Nav data stored on its hard drive. and my SD card is music only.

the latest amundsen not only has a bigger screen but has no CD player!  CD players are no longer fitted to new Skodas

And as someone with the new Amundsen I can say its a great improvement.

I have 80+ albums on an SD card and it brings up album art, artist, album name and track names.

They can be searched thru by all the above.

I thought I would miss the CD but the SD card is great and I just wish I had one on my motorcycle instead of a CD player.

agreed, it is very good, I actually think the sound quality is better than on my old Bolero but I don't know if that's me kidding myself as justification for a new car :-)

I don't really miss it, as you say what is shown on the screen is great but as I said there are a few CD's that don't play back properly when copied onto the SD card (obviously some sort of piracy prevention) and so there are times when using the TT it would be good to use the CD player. What's the point in having one you can't use! The old Yeti solution is much better, just using the disc to install the data and then taking it out.

If I'd downloaded the music I can play it through numerous devices but as I bought the CD I can't due to copying protection. But I guess that's a whole new and different discussion.

I have not come across 1 CD that presented a problem copying or playing back.

I had a few e.g. The Corrs, and it was a number (if not all) of theirs that I tried. Other artists as well but can't remember which now, maybe Faith Hill. I like heavier stuff as well! Quite varied taste really.

Seemed to copy OK but when played they were disjointed and distorted, both from the SD card and from the recorded files on the PC. I record at high quality and all the others on the SD card sound really good.

It's been awhile since I recorded them so I'll give it another go. Particularly as I've changed the PC now, though that shouldn't make any difference.

^ had similar probs with Eagles and Fleetwood Mac albums on CD, my solution, download mp3's when good offers on Amazon  -  however why should I have to do that(incurring more costs)!!

You've reminded me that I had problems with those as well. Don't have any on my SD card which I would have done if they had played back correctly.

Yeah, I agree about incurring more costs. I still prefer CD's for a number of reasons and recently replaced my home CD player. May have to bite the bullet with a couple of groups/artists and get The Best Of... via downloads.

Obviously Urrell likes a different sort of music to us! :D

Strange thing about music downloads, I have only downloaded from Amazon.

Every album I've looked at there is more expensive for the download than getting the physical CD album.

And yet as soon as you've bought the physical CD album it appears in your Amazon music download library and can be downloaded straight away.

Looks like we have the same taste in music.

I had no problems getting all the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac CDs on a 8gb Sandisk SDHC card' apparently the Amundsen does prefer certain SD cards.

If you google it you can get a list of recommended cards.

I've never had a problem with albums from The Eagles or Fleetwood Mac, and all I do is copy them using Windows Media Player.

^ tried various bits of software, always same result - c**p

Hence why I think it's some sort of anti-copying magic.

Australian versions in mp3 work fine, maybe a uk/europe/usa protection system?

I've bought a lot of CD's off Amazon but haven't bought any for a while so didn't know about the download - had a look and it mentions that you get the download as well. So thanks for that, useful to know.

I see Wishbone Ash have done a couple of albums I don't have so I will be looking to get soon, as well as seeing what else takes my fancy!
