Octavia SE L possible purchase

Featured Replies

My better half is considering ordering the 1.4 tsi 150 (although I shall be using it mostly) and we are just wondering what colour to order as well as what optional extras to go for. So far we have decided to go for the 17" terons and stuck between 2 colours brilliant silver and candy white.

Would anyone recommend adding the smartlink system and is it worth it and what exactly does it do.

Mr mojo... I have the 1.4 TSI SE L. Great car! Personally I would recommend the DSG. It's makes driving much more comfortable than messing around with manual.

Go with the standard wheels (not sure why you called out Teron as they are the standard wheels).

Silver vs. White isn't something we can really advise you on... It's a personal choice. Personally I have silver having debated white myself. White felt too much work needing more regular cleaning, but others may say that's nonsense. Also I felt white showed up marks more easily.

Smartlink is likely worth having as it adds an element of future proofing (always a dangerous topic as nothing is truly future proof these days with technology moving so fast!). It will allow you to use things like streaming musicals, maps and related services (like real time traffic info from google) from your phone rather than be stuck with the maps built into the car.

Lemme know if you have any other questions.

The standard wheels are now 16 inch.

I have the 1.4 SEL estate. It's brilliant. I have smartlink and it's very useful if your phone is compatible. Basically your head unit screen becomes a stripped down version of your phone screen. You get either android auto or apple car play. I also have adaptive cruise control very very good system

As the others have said, get smartlink! It will probably make headunit feel less outdated in a few years.

For £100 smartlink is a good deal, but make sure your phone is compatible.

SE L has sat nav so is smartlink really necessary?

Necessary no. It wasnt an option when I ordered the car. I cant say Ive missed it, but I would spec in a heartbeat if I could.

I dont know how updated the maps are down in more populated areas, but they do lack abit up here, so a second more updated mapservice could be nice.

It's not just about maps though the ability to use podcasts, Internet radio, Google now they're all very good

@domhnall was it you that posted a video of Smartlink working with Android. Looked a bit jittery/clunky. Any improvement? I dunno what the causes the jittery experience. Is the experience dependent on processing power in the head unit or just on the mobile device. If its just dependent on hardware capability of the phone, hopefully it should get better with new mobile devices.

@Mr mojo note that Smartlink currently isn't available post production from the dealer. That situation may/should change, but better not to chance it and it might cost more from dealer vs. factory fitted.

It was, purely down to poor Mobile signal, works fine when you have 3g signal. At my house we struggle with 2g so it was lagging

"I would avoid 17" wheels. Skoda have seen the light and made 16' available.  Thery are far more common therefore the selection of tyres is wider and with for example 205/55/16 more comfortable than 225/45/17.  Bigger wheels and wider tyres are sold for"Bling" purposes and not much else.

Also with 16" wheels your tax after a free first year will be £30 instead of £110;

Yep lock in the £30 road tax, prices are £140 in 2017 for normal cars.
