  • Picked the Swift up earlier today and went out for a drive round town. It's a great drive. Filled up earlier so I'll see what I can squeeze out of the 42 ltr tank Sent from my iPhone using T

  • All imho, but the Swift dash and switch gear feels dated and tacky in places, the climate controls remind me of a late 90s Aiwa hifi, and the plastics are harder and shinier in the most part. If 'hard

  • Well, I'd say sorry to hear you're leaving Skoda, but from what you've said in the past, getting the Crapid was a disastrous mistake and now you're back in a go kart, with just more power enjoy it

Yeah cheap and nasty.

Avoid this car!!

Superskoda for subtle (or not so subtle) spoilers, and a nice side skirt.

I already linked all the sideskirt and tail spoiler pages here at post #8:

You can't make it rev more though, even the REVO remap (144PS) falls off a cliff at 6000rpm.

The Revo remap is on my hit list - should make it noticeably more lively and give it the power it should have had in the first place.

Yes, SuperSkoda do a nice spoiler - the V2.  Should be nice with Plastidip and Glossifier.

How's the car storm? I've heard the boot is pretty small?  Seriously considering getting one just need to wait for a finance to finish in June.

Have they sold the Rapid yet? :D

Hi

They still have the Rapid at a much reduced price with virtually no profit in it now.

Anyway I must say yes the boot is quite small. It's not very deep as there is a large exhaust silencer underneath with the twin pipes taking up the room. It doesn't come with a spare wheel either as there is nowhere for it to go. My Citigo had the depth whereas this hasn't. It's big enough for me as I never used the massive boot of the Rapid.

The car is still excellent. Now on 3900 miles and loosened quite a bit giving an easy 48 mpg(calculated). Obviously if using the vvt (after 4Krpm) you won't get this figure. But it's made to be driven and hard too :) always great fun compared to turbo boost engines. A great induction sound in the high rev band too. Seems quite. Frightening sometimes taking it up to 7200rpm but that is what it's designed to do.

Take one for a drive and see what you think. It's a great involving drive :)

My next door neighbours got a 12 plate and he's in his 50s at first I didn't get it but it's a bit of a wolf in sheeps clothing, it's not a mini, it's not a fiat a abarth, but it's bloody quick and good fun, who gives a sh;£ if it's got a small boot. No one buys it for it's bloody boot!!!!

Haha totally agree Nels :)

It is very quick when you want it to be. The shove of power after 4000rpm is great and it pulls hard right upto 7200. Unlike turbos you never get lag. The MK3 Swift is certainly heaps better than the MK2. And the M16a engine is far better than the M15a of previous. No timing belt to worry about either. It's a very quiet engine. I'm loving it for the sheer fun factor of driving it every day. Great go kart handling and never seems to want to break away when pushed hard. I've had the Rapid spinning round in 360,s as it wouldn't stay stable on fast turns (off road). The Swift sticks like glue in the same scenario. But you can't compare them to each other. I don't know how they've managed to get good economy out a wild little engine :)

I did try a Mazda 2 Sport before the Swift and it's a very bland boring car but outside looks are ok(ish). The Swift Sport beats it hands down.

The spec level of the Swift can't really be beat for the price. It's top spec of all the Swifts with no extras needed unless you go down the custom parts route which gets very expensive.

Yes I'm on 2 sites. Very good too albeit fairly quiet though. Not as lively as Briskoda.

As someone who is just about to colllect a Rapid Spaceback im interested to know what the OPs issues where with the Rapid?

Mine wasn't a Spaceback but it had electrical problems. There's a long thread on here about it.

It's been sold. Some poor person is going to have a nightmare.

Maybe its gone to Auction, or sold to another dealer due to the time they had it on their forecourt.

In 2 words - build quality - Skoda have indeed shamefully rested on their laurels having made such gains in the last 20 years.

My Ibiza MK4- a 4 year older design ( but properly screwed together ) has zero rattles creaks or shakes.  The Toledo (built on the Rapid assembly line) is infested with them.

Still, you do get used to the noises, and Planet Rock is useful to hide them every day when commuting.

Edited by camelspyyder

The rattles aren't that bad... and they do drown out the squeaky clutch pedal ;)

I'd have another Rapid though :)

Edited by RapidPaul

To be fair, a lot of the issues with the OP's Rapid in particular seemed more dealer-related than build.

Over the last 18 months of the sorry saga, I seem to recall they firstly talked him out of the spec he wanted, then didn't code in the optioned satnav properly, fitted the wrong sports suspension parts giving a nose-up rake and dodgy handling, and couldn't cure the fuel gauge gremlins ( which led to the car being rejected ).

One to avoid completely I'd have thought - and since they are 217 miles from me I don't expect it'll be an issue.

Fingers crossed and touching wood but my Rapid Sport hasn't a squeak or a rattle and nothing wrong in 14k of ownership. I wouldn't be modding it if it was ..........probably!

Thanks for all the input.

Please don't be put off buying a Rapid it was just mine was a complete dog from day one. I wanted to keep the loan car they gave me which was also a 64 plate but a Spaceback Sport with every extra but those tw@ts at Skoda UK wouldn't let me have it. That was the nail in the coffin for me after 9 years with Skoda. This was the first troublesome one I had. My previous MK2 Octy diesel was faultless from new (2006) until I part ex it for the Citigo Sport in 2013. As said back then they were well built with quality parts.

Anyway still loving the Swift Sport. On 5K miles now and it's very entertaining to drive and so far no faults :)

Also returning a calculated 48 mpg. Not bad for a 1.6 twin cam vvt engine.

The only niggle I have with it is this

Everytime the head unit fires up you have to tap the agree button and it can't be disabled. Getting used to it now.

It has to be very annoying... Bad Suzuki... ;)

Yes that's Garmin for you pops up on my Sat Nav. every time I switch it on. Annoying but you learn to ignore it.

Funny thing is that if you didn't get you to agree a disclaimer each time before using it, some moron somewhere would kill someone to death, or injure themselves, or damage property and then sue Garmin for not telling them that could happen. Glad your still enjoying the car, if I could go that small then I defo would, at the moment I still need the Rapids massive boot.

In the US, maybe. In any EU state I seriously doubt it.

Thanks for all the input.
