Dealer pressure

Featured Replies

Ok guys wouldn't mind your advice on this one....

My car has finally arrived at my dealer but unfortunately I am away now (abroad as of overnight tonight) until start of October so unable to sign finance and pick it up, pdi etc....

I spent a lot of yesterday at work being hassled via email to scan the documents (I'm working in the middle of nowhere, obviously no scanner to hand), sign it and get it back to them as THEY have committed to a September handover.

I explained to them back in July that I was going away and I also explained yesterday that the car has just arrived at annoying time and I physically can't do anything until I am back.

Feeling really pressured to adhere to their timescale and I am massively ****ed off to be honest.

Who do I speak to above my dealership to complain? And what should I do? This isn't what I had in mind for a new car experience.

Have you paid them a deposit ?

Complain to Skoda Customer Services  0845 774 5745

or David Allen, Head of Customer Quality  01908 548100

I'd just type:

'As explained back in July I am now away unable to deal with your requests.  As explained yesterday, the car has arrived at the unfortunate time I told you about in July, and I am now not able do anything until I return on DD/MM/YYYY', ad nauseum until they get the message.

If you have not paid them a deposit and you still have your PX threaten them with pulling out of the deal due to adverse pressure.

You have explaind to them your needs and they must have agreed to the handover dates, They obviously haven't kept their part of the deal

If they get shirty tell em to Stick it

No handover dates were discussed. I knew it would be September arrival of car but as for handover I was consciously non committal as I knew I was going away and away with work also.

I understand they want the signature and rid of the car but I've said MY timescale once to them I shouldn't have to do it over and over.

I think I'll give that David Allen a ring. Cheers auric gold finger and co....

Keep us Updated please

Skoda UK Franchised Dealers can not have it all ways, they sell new Factory Build Cars from Skoda CZ / UK and can not give firm delivery dates even to the Month let alone the week, or even the year in some cases, so they will have to sit with it and it will

belong to Skoda CZ or them until they get the money from you.

Tough titty on them, they need to get a better Ordering and build system in place.

Have fun when you get it, and chill until then.

All a bit unfortunate really, when we ordered a Polo for my wife back in April, we were told it would be a early/mid August delivery, so we avoided being "away" over that period while hoping that there would be a delay and the car would be a 65 plate, as it panned out the car came on time, but our salesman was on holiday and that delayed the hand over for a week, though that placed it still in the quoted delivery period. Even at hand over it had to be delayed (if possible) due to dealers super amazing used car extravaganza!

The only issue I have with your position is, did your predicted, back at order placing "absence" dates ever get logged on the order agreement? Also, through out the time after order, were you not updated on progress, and if you did not have any comments/limitations recorded on your order agreement maybe you could have forced the issue when you started to get deliver updates to avoid this potential nastiness now?  Finance deals may end at end of September - I don't know, so is the dealer maybe trying to help you and not just helping themselves.

I told them back in July I was going away and I've no paperwork about absence. In fact when I told the salesman back in July he was fine about it.....it was his bosses etc getting all bolshy.

With regard to progress on car I got an email (after chasing myself) back stating its build date every couple of weeks or so....after the actual build week it arrived at my local dealer within 2 days and last I heard it was at emden to be shipped over - no more than 24hrs later it's at my local dealer. Was rushed through. I get the feeling they wanted me to have it before I go away tonight and kept me in the dark somewhat about its location on travelling. As it happens I'm nowhere near my dealership anyway until I return.

At no point was me going away an issue when it was discussed nearly 3 months ago. I quote "if you're away, you're away"

They've just tried to be a bit ****ty in my opinion. They just want my signature and then wave to me driving away whilst calling me a ****er most probably

I don't understand why you are getting wound up about it.

I would reply once saying what you have then put a filter on their address pointing it at the bin until I got back......

What's the worse that could happen ? Dealers don't give the cane anymore..... Er actually did they ever give the cane ? :-D

You're right I shouldn't get so annoyed but I do. Probably because for me, it's a big thing getting a new car, my first time getting one etc. they're kinda spoiling it.

I do take you're point though.

Yes I understand but you've worked bloody hard for your car .... They are the a-holes.... Don't let it spoil your purchase. I seem to have typed this a lot recently but life's too short :-)

I would make your experience known to Skoda..as Auric Goldfinger suggested, after you have received the car and presumably been through more mis-treatment and mis-handling by your dealer. Give Skoda the full picture, from signing to drive away.

Buying a car valued at the best part of £15k or so, and being made to feel you are inconveniencing the vendor by not being on hand immediately at their behest is precisely what is wrong with the relationship between vendor and customer in this country.

It is Skoda that needs to know, because they are the ones who decide how best to channel their products through the dealership networks in Europe. This is just the sort of scenario that Skoda can't afford to have happen, so if you want your dealer to get a beating, let Skoda do it.

Sounds like to me they just want to get their maximum amount of 65 plate registrations for September? if you arent around, you arent around, simple as that.

What is it with these dealers? They are either push push push or you are chasing them all the time for information. But I have to say that my Volkswagen dealer is extremely good.

Threadbear's comment is correct about the dealer wanting as many 65 plate registrations as possible because the month following the registration is the highest target they are given. It sounds to me that they have a shortfall of registrations for the month and are desperate. If you think about it if they get an extra say 1% bonus on every car registered it makes a huge difference to them.

However there is no excuse for you being pressurised the way they are pressuring you. Personally I'd do as suggested... Contact SUK customer services.... It can't do any harm.

Will be all to do with targets....I expect them meeting them is a pretty tight thing anyway (as with most manufacturers year on year they want you to sell more cars)....they'll have your car as a Sept sale and wont want to have to move it.

Also in fairness if the car is being financed via VWFS I am pretty sure there is something in the small print that the car is to be registered and delivered something like 7 to 10 days max from arrival at the dealership...cant remember exactly but there is something like that in the clauses.

Dealers can put this off or make their excuses for a short period but a few weeks can sometimes give them issues.....its probably them wanting the salw as a sept sale though more than anything.

There are such terms,

& it is all about money, but in the long run the Volkswagen Group that own Skoda & Volkswagen Finance have such a mixed up

Ordering and delivery system that there is no need for a Customer to worry about them waiting on £15,000 or what ever.

The Showrooms, Forecourts, Compounds and ships are full of hundred of thousands of vehicles new & Used that the VWG own

or the Dealerships or Finance Institutions own.

They can wear the cost or compensate Franchised Dealers if needs must.

Some salesperson wants the Bonus for the Quarter in their bank account ASAP as much as the Finance Director

wants the money through the Dealerships Accounts.
