Boss, have you got you dealer demo drive booked - track and road?

No, I am not that interested.

I shall be driving mine plenty when it turns up.  On track and off.

One thing I've recently realised is that NO road car handles, goes or as much fun as a track/race car.

So I can save the excitement for when mine turns up.

In comparison, I can get my 250bhp Fiesta ST race car round Brands Hatch as fast as my 600bhp R35 and it's on a completely different level in terms of interaction, fun and involvement.

I'd much rather drive the Fiesta out of the two.

If only it looked a little bit more subtle for those of us who like tea and biscuits with a tartan rug on our knees  :)

Indeed, dear lady.

SWMBO would not wish to be seen driving a boy/girl racer, & neither would I.....

It is the next big thing if you want a Hatch that can go fast if you have some place to go fast in it, and you want a fast and capable AWD with a manual gearbox.

Like the Honda Type R, fast FWD Manual.  Both attention drawers, so the cloak of invisibility is missing.

ie hardly Q cars.

Q cars are fun, even my moderately quick Superb can put a smile on my face.

Then I'd suggest the Golf R in hatch or estate.

Far more subtle, far more fun than the superb and far quicker.

Agree with you Boss. However, I think old newbie 2 and missus have already plumped elsewhere.. Probably wanted even more room.

The pen is / was poised over the order form already...........

Difficult choice though between the R estate & the 280 Superb estate, since both deals were with the

same dealer & salesperson, ( seems strange but  'tis possible) we had to make a decision on the spot!

This time, since it's going to be her car, the vRS gets replace by an R, when I do decide to sell the Superb I'll

be tossing coins in the air again.

As for fun in a Superb, I understand your thinking, but it has it's charm as a quiet & comfortable cruiser, but with the ability to surprise other folk.

If I thought that it's FWD drive-train could cope with more power / torque then I'd be tempted to find a good tuner &  spend some pennies on it,

but it would probably be a mistake.

Better to find a decent AWD 280 S3 next year perhaps, 'cos I'm unlikely to be allowed to play with her Golf!

That's what we thought, but............we changed our mind.

Don't ask why, some thoughts regarding residuals perhaps & just how big a car she really needs.

Same dealer, interesting discounts & PCP's, ended up tossing mental coins & went for the car she wanted

She's happier now, therefore so am I.

If only my local roads were of that quality- great scenery to match the run out.

I've read the CAR article RS vs R and  the result is a predictable win for the RS. CAR say it is the best hot hatch for any money! I think they like it :)

So will it be Focus RS rather than the expensive M2 then?

So will it be Focus RS rather than the expensive M2 then?

M2 is not a financial or practical option at the moment (in first year of PCP and more importantly, the unavailability of the M2) and I wouldn't swap my M135 for the RS. Although I would be more than happy if it handled as well as the RS. besides, I could probably get a deal for an M3 for the same price a the M2 at the moment.

As I have said, I like the RS, it's just a little bit too boy racer in the looks department for me.

Btw for those interested, if you buy CAR mag at the moment you get a free Classic Cars mag, that's full of 'oh so lovely things' of beauty that I can't afford as I'd have to sell my house first. Nice test of the Countach v the Pantera (I really love these cars :) )

There's a used car dealer in Wigton whose speciality is Focus RSes - he always has a few in stock - at the moment he has 2009 / 2010 models advertised for circa £25k - while there is no doubt room for haggling I'm wondering why anyone would pay that when for £5k / £6k more you could have the new model!

His prices across his entire stock do seem a bit strong though, not just the RSes.

Sometimes cars or vehicles are not for sale unless someone comes forward and flashes the cash.

They can be part of the Dealers 'collection' 'keepers' but owned by the Company & part of the 'stock' so priced not to sell.

(maybe that is an internet myth, but then i know a few collectors that are Car Dealers.)

His website still has his sold RSes up - possibly to make him look busier than he actually is...

Many motor traders like to big themselves up on their websites.

I thought I would have a look at the sorts of cars I'm interested in and he has more 'Sold' cars than stock! Seriously needs to clear out his stock list :(

Not posted and it actually got the thread back on track for a bit.

1 hour plus of pure OT pleasure....  About as much detailed information as anyone gives anywhere.

^^^^

So he tells you the tank hold 62 Litres, he read that probably from the Ford Press / Media pack, and says that is 16.4 Gallons.

*That is '16.4 US Gallons', not the 'Imperial Gallon', the EU Gallon, so 62 litres is 13.6 gallons in the UK / EU.*

George,

I sent this review to a member on here a couple of weeks ago ,who was considering one for his family.

A bit OTT in chat but still very useful review imo.

62 litre tank (13.6 gallons) & 500 miles without needing gas will be someone driving and getting 36 mpg or so.

Maybe not in 'Sport' setting then with cracks and burbles.

?

Does anyone know,

Are they recommending running on Super Unleaded 98 ron (or better) or just Unleaded 95 octane?

Has to be either that or the Cupra for me. Raving reviews everywhere about how well it's set up. Currently sold on the Cupra as it's much cheaper compared to the RS in Sweden and a fraction of that money difference can be spent on making it even faster than the RS but I prefer the RS look, badge and legend to the Cupra hands down. I also like the fact there's no 3door / 5door / Estate / Manual / DSG variant from which to choose. Car was built with one specific configuration in mind. Take it or leave it.
