mk1 52plate Octavia vrs - dipped headlights work and also when u pull lever towards you main beam will flash. BUT if you push away to put on main beam NO LIGHTS and also dash lights go out as well. Any suggestions I have a complete car as spares. I thought it might be the actual combination switch fitted on steering column under steering wheel.

I was thinking burned out contacts on dip switch, if that's what you meant?

I'm with KenONeill on this one, have you tried spraying electrical contact cleaner into the switch and moving it about at all?. If it makes a difference then swap out the switch, if not, it is still where I would start anyway.
