What feature on a modern car do you most dislike? & what is must have?

Featured Replies

You'll not be moving very far with a flat battery anyway! ;-)

Just out of interest though, how many of the people who have said they wouldn't like an electric brake have actually had one and what's happened to cause such anti feeling?

What I mean is does the break stay fully on, or fully off? If fully on then you wouldn't be able to bump start it, if fully off then you could wake up to a huge bill.

Stop start no way but zennon headlights must have skoda take note

The VW style electric handbrake with auto hold is an absolutely fantastic device to have..

Until it starts sticking and youre sat there dipping the back of the car looking useless

and no use for handbrake turns.

1000's of yoofs will be missing out.

In that case I must be lucky as both the VW & BMW have been fine. The BMW doesn't (sadly) have the auto hold feature - just the auto release one.

I'd also considered having a car with no wheels as that'd 100% sort out any potential puncture problems too. ;)

It does work when you're moving as I once (mistakenly) found out. I didn't try to do a turn at the same time though. :x

It acts as an emergency stop feature if you press and hold whilst moving iirc.

A fanily member had an 07 passat with the auto handbrake. Supposed to release itself when you set off, but after 3 years probably did so 1/3 of the time. Youre sat there ducking the cars backside, then when it does go, as a quirk of the PD 2.0TDI, youd rev out of first before youve got anywhere lol.

Apart from that. Whats wrong with a normal handbrake lever?

My hate is gutterless roof's as water pours in.... Grrrr

Love on my DSG's adaptive cruise...literally drove 12/14 miles of mixed roads on full cruise didn't need to touch pedals just kept them covered in case it went funny...totally amazing stopping at junctions and pulling away without touching the pedals and keeping a fixed safe distance from the car in front :)))

Driven a couple with them and they just seem ike a pointless complication. It doesn't do a better job as a handbrake and has many more point of failure for extra cost.

Just seem to be a design thing to remove an item from the cabin or as yet another 'feature' to for people that weigh quality on the number of gadgets they get.

Hates:

<SNIP>

DRLs: Pointless, looks like fog lights and what good do they actually do? Nothing.

Daytime running lights are a sensible safety feature, they are designed to make a vehicle more conspicuous and have been common in Nordic countries for years.

If you rode a motorbike you would soon see the point of them.

wait till it needs repairin' :p

That's what manufacturer's warranty's are for. :p ;)

When you ride a Motorbike you see how important having your lights on is and that Drivers See you.

As you lie on the ground after being knocked off your bike, maybe like i did you will be thinking of the car driver that never saw you, you can contemplate if they had DRL's , Side Lights or Headlights on or no lights.

The driver that took my leg off had Sidelights on, but just forgot the Indicators or to look to see what was coming

before turning right.

I drive a Scandinavian car that has Dim Dip Lighting (Day time / Day Light time) which seems not to annoy people when on during the day, and the Volvo Daylight Running Lights before they were introduced never annoyed people either,

tickled their fancy back in the 70's & 80's, even in the 90's, but then they showed to the front and rear and just lit up, not too bright

to let the not too bright know a car coming towards them was being driven and moving.

No, having lights on a motorbike is important, that makes THEM more visible as they are the vulnerable ones. If everyone is more visible then nobody is. Try living in a world where everyone wears hi-vis jackets, nobody would see the builder in the crowded subway station.

I hate the lack of a handbrake on a lot of new cars.

As Wino says DRLs are the most pointless thing, with "cornering fog lights" as a close second.

Things I really want; "emissions controls" that know when they're being tested and throttle the engine to achieve a pass!

Id agree with both of them! Only one slight amendment. DRLs- Fine if they are on a JAAAAG, as their design actually looks good. All the rest- Pointless waste of time and money. I actually see the cars before i see the DRLs. Point? None.

Hate:

DRL and Start/Stop technology and DPFs.

Like:

I also think the electric handbrake is fantastic, I've got one on my Audi and at 11 years and 150K miles its not failed yet. When they fail you can usually just replace the motor, far less hassle than replacing a stretched handbrake cable and trying to set it up so the brakes are even on both sides.

Really? Shame they dont work then. Dont think ive ever seen the DRL before the car.

No, but he would still be the only one with his arse crack showing. :moon: Lol.

Hate----Collision protection that stops you driving too close to the car in front,  says the driver of an Audi :D

Like---- Push To Pass button,  for when you are following some numpty who insists on a constant speed of 10mph below the allowed speed limit.

I took my dad's A6 to the local hand car wash. The guys washing it laughed at me while I struggled to roll the car forward for them :o

Actually I'd driven it a bit and didn't object to the handbrake at all (usually).

My commute to work is 30 miles of fast A/B roads - the cars with DRLS are often easier to spot in the distance while looking for an overtake.

:)

Cruise control. Don't need any of the other Auto driving jobbies, just cruise to give your legs a rest on the motorway.

:(

DPF. It's enough to put you off diesel.

Must have

Air Con...

Do without

Excessive toys and crap you dont need when driving.

I have no electornic hand brake ezperience so i have no opinion (otger than old fashioned minor distrust)

I ll buy a full size spare myself if its not already there... so its on my must have but its easy sort...

I am pro drls- i drive with my dip beam on at all times. Im easier to see, so less collision risk by dodgy overtakes..

doesnt guarantee no knob is ever going to pull out in front of me, but reduces the chances.

Dislike:

Auto lights, if you need the car to decide when it’s time to turn your lights on then you really shouldn’t be driving.

DRL’s ... but only because they are front only, so idiots drive with no rear lights on when it’s dark (the clue is in their

name... DAYTIME)

Electric handbrake ... that was until I drove an A6 and MKIII Superb, these ones are great!

Must have:

Electric seats (or at least electric lumbar support)

Heated seats and ideally heated windscreen

Front AND rear DRL’s (see above) oh and they ’need’ to be LED’s!

Xenon’s

Bluetooth

Aircon

Cruise control

More toys than you can shake a stick at  :D

Another dislike for electric handbrakes here, same goes for auto lights, wipers etc,Xenon lights are a must for me & i like the single press for 3 flashes of the indicators on my octy,i also like the footrest for my left foot in the octy, climate control is another like for me.
