Alloy Wheel cover

Featured Replies

Hi all, I was in signing the paperwork for my new vRS yesterday and was given all the usual info about Gap etc and also given a leaflet about alloy wheel and tyre cover which is £249 for 3 years - basically covering up to 10 claims for wheel repairs and tyre damage. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of these polices or thoughts if worthwhile? I'm normally careful with Kerbs but it can happen and I'd say those Gemini's probably aren't the cheapest to repair.

I wouldn't be too keen to pay that. It sounds like another way to scrape £250 out of you. If you do kerb the alloy, there is no rule saying you have to get it fixed immediately. Get all the alloys fixed up before you sell the car and it will likely not be much more than £250 and that's if you are unlucky. To get value out of this cover, you will need to be sending the car back to skoda after every little scratch and that is just going to be a masive pain in the a**e.

If you want a cheaper level of protection, get tyres with good sized rim protectors like the goodyear eagle F1.

Even cheaper still - just dont drive too close to the kerbs ;)

My daughter in law has a history of curbing the wheels on any car she drives... including the 19’s on her husbands A6!!

So when they bought a new Astra they took out the wheel insurance, two years on and guess what... yep the wheels still look like new!!

If you have a history of curbing wheels then it can be cheap insurance, however if you have chosen a wheel with a diamond cut surface then it is very unlikely they are going to be able to match it, does the insurance cover a replacement wheel?? the wheels will also probably be repaired by a chips away type outfit that repairs the front face of the wheel only (usually with the tyre still on the rim) these are not the best!

That's true but then you'd be driving around with a less than perfect car for 'up to three years'. If the kerbing had to be fixed at year three due to PCH etc, then you'd have to do it anyway but with no aesthetic benefit.
