Got to the bottom of my Droplink problem - H&R Coilover problem

Featured Replies

I thought i had my droplink rattle problem solved, however when i popped the struts out yesterday to take the helper springs out, i realised that the reason my ARB rattles around is the fact that the mount hole on the strut is bigger than the M8 thread of all the droplinks i've had! No wonder i have not been able to get any set of droplinks to seat properly! should of noticed this earlier. The hole in the strut is probably 1mm too big! It should be about 8.2mm!

The only solution i can see is to drawer up a square plate with the correct size hole in it, get it waterjet cut in 3mm or 4mm steel, then weld the plates to the strut. Any other suggestions?

Cut up a tin and wrap strips around the bolt?

That's not it, if the locknut is good and tight it won't move.

Looking at the thread damage the nut wasn't FT.

Yeah, most droplinks I've fitted have been sloppy in their holes. (Ooh Matron!)

If they're tightened properly it shouldn't move/cause a noise.

Trust me, they were done up really tight - used a impact gun and a breaker bar. The hole is too big on the strut - never had this on any set of coilover i've had before................................

Factory droplinks have M10 threads according to this. Are you sure yours are M8?

M8 sounds un-manenough?

With adequate pre-load, a bolted joint isn't dependent on a close fit round the bolt, as others point out above.

My bad they are M10, lost my verniers to check the hole size also.

New droplink, new nuts, tighten to correct spec, not more, not less.
