Dense fog, no lights!

There a simple rule:

How visible do I think I am to others?

Barely a day goes by without someone making me think the answer is always going to be 'clearly not enough'.

I'd a Citroen C5 prior to my Octavia and the fog lights, both front and rear, where activated from the light stalk but they reset to off whenever the lights where switched off and I can't see why this can't be incorporated into all cars to save the experience of driving around behind someone with rear fogs on days after a foggy day .... mind you I'd also like to go back to being able to use my rears separate from the front as if I'm following at a safe distance from a car in front and I'm the tail end Charlie I'd like my rears on just as a safety precaution without having the front annoying others.

Not trying to cause a war but you can see a lot better (especially at night) with no lights in mist/fog, don't do it in traffic though

How would you know if you were in traffic if the other vehicles around are doing the same thing?

This is why fog lights are mounted low and point downwards. You can use just sidelights and fogs if your dipped beam is reflecting off the fog into your eyes.

You would be utterly stupid to have nothing on at all if its that bad though as someone *will* run into you as you would be completely invisible. Or you will t-bone someone as they will pull out not knowing you're there.

'You might / may use Sidelights and Fogs', and often people say you are supposed to,

but not according to the 'Highway Code' in the UK.

Dipped Beams, and you may use Fog Lights when reduced visibility etc etc.

(And no place was that changed when Cornering Fogs came about to say a Single Fog light at times is OK,

when Visibility is not Reduced.)

I know what you mean, I tried this years ago on a quiet rd at night where I used to live, think it was my dad that said, so I did and it works. No I wasn't daft to go back onto main roads like that only on quiet ones where I new no one was....it was only to try what he said

As said above
