How does your rear screen demister work?

Featured Replies

Ok, this isn't the most exciting topic :D but my rear window demister seems to be broken - Once i've switched it on it just stays on until I switch the ignition off, it won't go off on it's own.

I'm trying to figure out if it's the button that's faulty or something electronic. When I press the button it stays in, and pressing it again won't make it come out. After about half an hour it has come out on it's own.

Does your button stay in for a while, and then the demister switch off when the button has popped out, like the taps in public toilets, or can you just turn it on and off at will?

When I press the rear heater on, the button doesn't stay in. It will stay on until I switch it off or the ignition is switched off. When restarting the car, the heater will stay off.

Maybe you have a sticking switch there, I remember my first Octy had the same thing, 5mins for the dealer to sort it :)

Yeah exactly the same, Never turns itself off. But turn it on and you can switch it back off when you want. Or turns off when you switch the ignition off.

There are two types of switches. If yours has a "latch" when you push it in, then it'll stay on until you remember to switch it off.

If you have the momentary type switch then it will stay on for a set amount of time, or less if you switch the ignition off.

I have the first (presumably older) type, which is a bit annoying. I have a habit of leaving it on for entire journies, which can't be doing the battery charge level much good.

You switch is catching on its outer edge id expect, happens loads.

Dealer should be able to sort it easily.

As ross says, its not suppost to stay in...

also the rear screen is on a timer iirc 15 or 20 minutes

Funny you should post this.

My vRS rear screen demister switch sticks until the cabin temperature has risen a little. Jiggling it gets it to come out again.

They catch around the outside edge, usually req's a touch of trimming around the edges and all is well.

Cheers guys, will get it looked at. Just hope they don't have to take too much of the dash off for them to get at it - could expect a load more dashboard rattles afterwards in that case..

I've given up on the dealer sorting it. They've had about 5 goes at it now, it surely can't be that hard to avoid trapping the wire (cable tie??)

Will mention it again for the service  - they'll get it sorted, eventually :)

there is an old skoda joke in here somewhere.........

When I went to pick my fabia vRS up they showed me around and how all the buttons work. During the demonstration he noticed that the rear heater and traction control switch would stay pushed in instead of coming straight out (they should be a micro switch). So once on you couldn't switch it off.

1 minute back in the garage and they had it fixed, apprantly the stereo housing (the metal thing it sits in behind the dash) was slightly bent up, catching the switch and preventing it returning.

This is probably the same issue, you could either take the stereo out yourself and readjust the housing or just take it back to the dealer, if it's the same problem then it'll take em less than a minute to sort.
