Hi everyone.

 

I have a 2006 Fabia 1.2 64HP car.

 

Recently it has been showing the Engine Management light when the car is up to temp (90C) and is idle.

The engine management light will appear and it will then put the car into limp mode, reducing the cars power and turning off cylinder 1.

My dad, who's a mechanic, has replaced the coil pack in cylinder 1 and the spark plug. This hasn't solved the problem.

 

He seems to think it may be the ECU playing up as when the car is turned off for about 30 seconds, and then fired back up, the light disappears and then re-appears if the car is sat idle.

 

If I turn off the engine when the engine management light is on and then turn back on after 30 seconds and keep my foot on the accelerator, keeping it at about 1500 rpm, the light doesn't come back on. Its only when the car is idle and hot.

 

Anyone have any other suggestions?

 

If I do need a new ECU, I assume it will need programming to the car by someone who knows what they're doing?

id suggest doing a compression check on cylinder one and seing what you get, i suspect you might have worn valve guides and in turn worn valve seats.

 

at least its somthing you can do thats simple and free really.

Won't be ECU. Power cycling the ignition is just resetting the misfire counters to zero I think. I agree with  ^ him, ask your old man  to compression test it.

Its quite a common fault on the Fabia im afraid, i had a timing chain snap on a fairly new, low milage polo (with the same engine) somthing like a 2012 model with around 25,000 miles on it. The chain snapped and damaged the valves. When i took the head off to inspect i checked all the valve guides and most of the exhaust ones were well on their way already....

 

it could be somthing like the EGR valve but its an easy way to find out.

UPDATE: Today I've used my car as normal and the engine management light on the car hasn't appeared, and its been running like normal. I haven't replaced anything in the engine, this seems to suggest that its an electrical fault, as opposed to a compression fault?

Entirely possible that it's just electrical, but a compression test costs nothing but a little time. A good result means you get to relax about the general health of the engine; a bad result stops you wasting time chasing other causes.

Still going to do a compression test seeing as we already have the kit for it. Just seems odd that its not all the time. We are starting to think it could also be one of the sensors in the engine that has some muck on it.

Did a compression test today, everything came back okay. Also checked the timing senor, nothing wrong in their either.

 

The light also hasn't come back on since friday, so it's probably fixed itself temporarily again, like last time.

Hi, I have the same sylinder 1 misfirering error. What happened later with the car. Dit this error occur again, or did you find a permament solution to solve that error?
