yeti 1.2 fuel consumption

Featured Replies

Few days in with new yeti 1.2tsi seems to drink the fuel abit, is this the norm or because I came from a diesel ? Any thoughts welcome

Over 38,000 miles I have averaged a true 41.54MPG with a 2012 1.2Tsi DSG. Worst was 36 MPG in a high speed motorway drive into a howling gale with appalling weather - rain, snow, wind etc! Best was 46.5 MPG in regular rural driving. I have noticed that since I replaced the original Conti tyres with Goodyear EfficientGrip that the MPG has improved by about 2-3 MPG, seems a big improvement to me but so far figures confirm it. All MPG's based on fill-to-fill measurements.

One thing worth noting is that if you drive any Yeti at high speeds in excess of 70MPH then the brick like aerodynamics punishes MPG badly!!

How long is a piece of string?

You don't give enough details to answer the question.

Ours gets roughly 40mpg average, but its still got less than 4k miles on the clock and it does short trips too.

Brought it back down the motorway (it had 2k miles on it at this point) at roughly 75-80mph and it got 42mpg. I was following in my HTP 70 2013 fabia and got 51mpg.

Hoping it frees off abit and gets abit better. My fabias got better on fuel since the day i got it, so im hoping the yeti will do the same.

My previous Yeti 1.2 DSG returned 36-37 mpg consistently over what was mostly short about town journeys.

Whenever I travelled further afield (about 200 mile run) it returned 41-42 mpg. All figures based on brim to brim, not maxidot.

It's replacement (1.2 110 ps dsg) has only covered 120 miles so too early to tell.

Mine does 37 mpg average over in 20K. My driving is mainly stop start town. My old 2.0 tdi did 40mpg in comparison. I too was disappointed but it's only costing me £5/week more in fuel where depreciation is £50 a week so I ignore it and enjoy driving it.

It's heavy, so maintain speed.

It's unaerodynamic so don't drive fast.

Mine's done just over 20,000 miles over two and a half years. Overall it's averaged 39.2mpg  with a minimum of 36mpg and a maximum of 42mpg; I always fill to the brim just so I can keep track of true mpg. Many of my trips are short (<5 miles) and on longer trips often the car is pretty loaded - I do very few trips with just me in the car - so overall I don't think that's too bad. And anyway I didn't buy it because I thought it would be thrifty, I bought it because, 30 seconds into the test drive, I thought "What a great car!!! And I still think that.

I wonder how the new 1.4 compares

Totally agree with this - and it (obviously) applies equally to diesel or petrol.

The Mk1 170 DSG diesel I had was absolutely flat out in Germany on a ski-ing trip at an indicated 125mph which was its claimed top speed.

The Audi A4 Avant I had with the same engine and gearbox would eventually hit 140.

The wheel arch gaps create a lot of drag let alone the Tonka toy stance that we all love !

I wonder how the new 1.4 compares

So do I. I have often wondered what the MPG difference would be if you drove a 1.4 Tsi in the same manner you drive a 1.2 Tsi. I suspect there would be little difference and if the 1.4 was the version with cylinder deactivation then it might be significantly better. Doubt we will get the chance to find out though.

My 1.2 at 45/50 mph = 45 mpg, 55/60 mph = 40 mpg. I rarely travel over 60 mph

Being 1.6 ton, (at least mine is) keeping it rolling helps too.
