Rapid after 12 months

Featured Replies

I have had my Rapid for a little over a year now , I bought it in Sept 2014 . It has taken the two of us on holiday to Scotland twice in that time and has now done around 10,000 miles , 3000 when purchased as an ex demo . I have to say that the car has , touching wood as we speak , been completely reliable, as have my previous two Skoda's . It is comfortable quiet, ish and fast enough for me , it seems to use less fuel than my two Fabia's  ,  and a lot less on the motorway .

Apart from that there is nothing to report , other than I love it !

Best car I have had since a Peugeot 504 back in the 80's .

When I win the lottery I will however still trade it in for a Mercedes S class , but until then I am very happy .

I've run mine for a similar time, and in the main I'm very pleased with it.  I've just had an extended drive in SEAT's more premium LEON, and for me It was not an all round better car.

It's just a shame that the Toledo /Rapid doesn't ride better, and has too many knocks and rattles as standard. The TSi105 is thirsty too.

Overall  though it's good value, looks good & drives well, and has plenty of kit. I'm keeping mine for several years yet.

I guess I don't do enough miles to worry about the fuel , have a works van during the day . On the motorway the Rapid is a whole lot better than a HTP Fabia , that used to drink fuel at a terrible rate when over 70 . It was okay round town but it needed written warning if you wanted to overtake anything .

I hope to keep this car for another three years and change again when I retire in 2018 . I am happy to accept that the car is built down to a price and has a rattle or two cos all my Skoda's have been like that and if they weren't I wouldn't have been able to afford them !

Would like a new Superb though .

I've had my toledo 4 months and it's sitting on almost 10k, had 28 miles on the clock when I bought it. It's had a new clutch spring due to a squeak and a new window switch due to it failing randomly. Other than that touch wood it's been great. Due 2 front tyres though and gets its first service tomorrow (Monday)

^^^ Those front tyres aren't wearing very well, what brand fitted?

It's a diesel isn't it Juego?

I've just rotated the OEM Contis on the TSi at 16.5k

Fronts were down to 5/4/5 mm  Rears 6/6/6 mm

Hopefully that translates to 25000 miles or more from a set of 4.

Yeah mines is a 1.6 tdi, It's the factory tyres which are Dunlop Sport Maxx on mine.

I had numerous problems with mine which were rectified to varying degrees of satisfaction by the dealer. I can't say it's all good, but 5 months in and 7k on the clock, I'm beginning to like it as much as I'd hoped when I first clapped eyes on her. She drives well, lots of rattles though, I'm use to them now, she looks great at all angles except straight on, looks a bit like a narrow boat and she can fit people in the back in relative comfort, how they made so much room inside I will never know??

Has got a narrow appearance from the front. It's very bland to look at. It needs a Toledo front to give it some detail. I changed because they are all dead boring cars. One year and 5K miles was enough for me. Shame :(

I'm also at the one year point with my Spaceback (took delivery on September 30 last year).

Numerous problems to begin with, complicated by a dreadful dealer who sold me the car and utterly offensive Skoda UK. However, better service from my local dealer and help from this forum has seen everything rectified to various levels of satisfaction.

I've done 13,000 miles in my car and the following things are apparent.

1) Seats are not very comfortable, but have got a bit better as they finally start to break in a bit. Seat base cover unclipping itself when you get in the car is still an issue.

2) even with me now doing only short runs between home and the tube station, or home and the shops (no more 70 mile a day commute) I am still getting 40+ mpg - I'm very happy with that.

3) the ride is quite crashy, but the engine pulls extremely well and the power is there when you need it. Cruises nicely at 60 or 70.

4) replacing the Swing with an Amundsen is highly recommended. Wish I did it a year ago.

5) there are a couple of rattles, but I've had worse from more expensive cars

6) rear leg room is exceptionally good.

I'm in total agreement with you on almost everything Chris, my seat is also uncomfortable, crap dealer and Skoda uk are disgusting. Lots of problems to begin but last few months have been fine. I've lowered my standards on what to expect from a new car and that's helped me cope with the disappointment you get from a Rapid, lol.

Not a year into ownership, but I have done over 12,000 miles in it in the 3 months or so since I got it.

I find it is so far everything I hoped it would be, a very suitable replacement for my ageing Octavia 2.

You can see little things that have been done to a price (one touch windows etc), but I am in it for 12 hrs a day most days and don't find it uncomfortable at all. In fact with the centre arm rest it's actually more comfortable to drive than the octavia was.

No complaints about the seats, or the ride quality. Fuel economy seems to be constantly at 50mpg or higher.

To be a bit critical I think the 90bhp 1.6 diesel is a bit underpowered when I have 4 passengers in, but I can't go down the re-map route until I see what skoda are going to do with the emission software issue in the recall.

7 months ownership, about 5k miles on the clock.

I am generally happy with my choice, although some things are annoying (stiff suspension/seats, squeaking windows, recently found out that the wipers are not very effective).

Other than these though, nice pulling engine, high enough mileage (although driving mostly urban routes), reliable and comfortable so far, really easy to drive and park.

Tomorrow I will make my first oil change as per the local dealer recommendation. I know it's early (the central dealer recommends 10k or one year, while the MFD says 12.5k but I think I will do this first one earlier just to visually inspect the old oil and make an educated guess for the future ones.

Never hurts to do an early oil change on a car with a turbo. I change the oil in mine every 5,000 miles.

16 Months ownership, almost! (Had from new June 20th 2014) Covered just over 16,000 miles in that time and I haven't had a single thing go wrong with it so far. I agree the seats aren't the best and the ride is quite unforgiving but it was a cheap family hatchback at the time of purchase so I cant really argue.

Forgot to mention - the ineffective windscreen wipers is mostly down to the wiper blades fitted in the factory. Mine were also largely ineffective, so I switched to using Michelin Stealth wiper blades - massive improvement.

Interesting info. Which model did you buy? What size fits the Rapid?

Been fairly happy with ours, had/have one or two minor issues or oddities but it works hard, mainly going back and forth to work on the poor roads round here, running the rubber band 17" Sport Maxx tyres during the summer. Will this winter be trying Nokian WR A3 on the factory Camelot rims, having given the 15" set-up I used last winter to my lad for his new Ibiza.

Mind still prefer it to the previous Octy III but neither can hold a candle to the V40.

I like my toledo but I'm actually considering trading it in for a skoda superb. Being 6ft 3 and cramped up in the driving seat is starting to take its toll on my knee. It's at the point I'm almost in tears sometimes with the pain! I can move the seat back when I don't have passengers but I spend more time cramped than stretched. It never used to be a problem but it's becoming one :-(

Can't remember the sizes off the top of my head, but if you go to the Michelin Stealth website it will tell you what sizes you need for the Rapid.

Good move.
