EGR problem with code P0407 & P046C, limp mode (1.6 TDi CR)

Featured Replies

I bought my Octavia II from Cargiant back in March 2015.  Not having any problem until in the last 2-3 weeks, the "coil" warning light was on when driving, kicked it into limp mode.

The car has only done about 27.7k miles (61 plate) and only done its minor service back in May 2015.

Check OBD and get trouble code P0407 & P046C.  I tried to clear the code, but it came back after a while.  I took it to the local garage to check, same trouble code, they said EGR valve "live data suggest that the valve is not opening 100% (about 55% -ish).  If replacing the EGR parts, it will cost about £425 plus VAT!!!

I asked if cleaning the EGR valve would help or not. The mechanics said that these days the "electric" ones won't help and difficult to clean given that where it is installed.  They suggested me to contact Cargiant and/or Skoda UK first and see if that's something to do with the emission scandal recall (It has one of the E189).

Called Skoda UK customer services. As expected, they said they do not know until the investigation is done and what to do with the recall. They only took my personal details and that's it!

I hope this forum will help me with some advice, should I get it fixed and peace of mind but with a big bill (over £500)? Or should I just clear the code and wait until I know what to do with Skoda/VW recall?

It's a common fault on the VAG 1.6 tdi - try to get some goodwill from Skoda UK as it should not fail at such low mileage

Thanks for the quick reply.

Do I just go through the normal Customer Service phone line? or do you suggest a better to communicate with them to get their engagement on this?

Sorry for all these rookie questions, but thisi is my first time car, and I am running like a headless chicken now ...

+1   however if that fails  it may be worth trying to manually exercise the "valves"  from what I've just seen(but not in situ)   there is a flap valve which is activated by vac,-- the arm could be moved back and forth if you can reach,  it looks likely to be sticky inside the housing (soft coke)--------also the electric motor driving the other valve (looks like an exhaust valve )   which actually lets the gas pass thro, has a snail cam driven from  it,  this acts on a roller on the end of the valve   this is under a rubber/plastic push -on cover, if you could remove it,  a spot of lube squirted in and a little manipulation may at least put off the evil day    keep us all posted how you get on
