Back box delete or smaller box? OEM is blowing...

Featured Replies

So my standard back box is starting to blow, not much right now, but it will get worse. So the question is, back box delete, or do they sound terrible and should a smaller back box be fitted for some extra (not mad loud) sound. Rest of the system is stock, and I can't afford a full system right now so will just upgrade as bits go (or I get more cash). I've heard a few people do a back box delete, but recently my exhaust blew at a joint and prior to clamping a short section in, it was not bearable. Fun for an hour, but if thats normal for a full exhaust with out a box, then I'm out. Has anyone just popped a smaller back box on for a bit of extra sound? Heres hoping to the down pipe blowing soon....

I think a pipe would be VERY loud.  A new backbox is £200 from TPS also.

£200?! Thats a fair way to a cat back system. So a generic back box...or one from my local longlife place I'm sure would be a cheaper option.

I am sure you could get a stainless for that, although longlife? :P

:) As least youll know it fits.  For a full cat back though you are looking 350-400.

They dont make 'generic' backboxes.  You have to get them from Skoda/TPS.

I tried mine without a back box... was way too loud and sounded aweful.

Not only loud and a loss of power, I believe it's also illegal in the uk to delete the backbox due to noise regulations and MOT..

Good to know.

I don't think its illegal to delete it, think its only illegal if fails MOT, maybe for noise or emissions, but not due to lack of back box
