Possible counterfeit parts - Stainless Steel Pedal Set for S3

Featured Replies

Over in the accessories thread there's been debate on what is EXACTLY the right part number etc for the Stainless Steel Pedals. Here's the update of my checking, including a purchase of a set from Skoda via TPS and from SuperSkoda.

Skoda Accessory Catalogues and eshop in CZ list part number: 5E1 064 200

Super Skoda Site lists part number: 3V2 064 200

Pedals bought from TPS came in Skoda branded box, with fitting instructions

Pedals bought from Super Skoda came in a jiffy bag, no fitting instructions

The Clutch and Brake pedals appear identical in size / shape and have the same individual part numbers stamped on them, although the ones in the box look very slightly more refined in terms of the rear plastic. On the SuperSkoda pedals the tiny circular marks where the plastic moulding was attached to something else are slightly more roughly finished but without comparing multiple sets this could just be a variation.

The accelerator pedals have different part numbers, subtly different appearance at the rear, are a different size and a slightly different profile.

The part number stamped on the accelerator pedals from Super Skoda is still 5E2 721 647 A yet are supposed to be "3V2 064 200"

The part number stamped on the brake and clutch pedals from Super Skoda is 5E1 064 200 (same as the TPS set).

Googling super skoda's part number shows only results from their site(s) and no other links from any other site, Skoda or otherwise.

Googling the Skoda part number shows links from different official skoda sites and others

http://eshop.skoda-auto.com/cz/en/b2c/stainless-steel-foot-pedal-covers-octavia-iii--rapid-5e1064200x shows that Skoda are a listing a 5E part number for the SIII, where they have 3V part numbers for SIII where the accessory is uniquely new.

Skoda lists no set of pedals with the same part number as SuperSkoda. Neither could TPS locate this RHD specific part number. In fact in the UK where only RHD pedals would be needed, there were 10s of the 5E1 064 200 set in stock, which strongly suggests they are appropriate for RHD cars.

My conclusion is that there is a risk (make your own judgements please) that the SuperSkoda set of pedals may be counterfeit.

If that's correct, the clutch and brake pedals appear 95%-98% similar, but the accelerator pedal is significantly different. In use they might be fine.

I see no reason why Skoda has it wrong and SuperSkoda would be the ONLY site online where a new SIII part number could be available.

On balance I can find no online views that suggest SuperSkoda would sell counterfeit parts.

Please do form your own judgement, happy to be wrong here - but I would urge caution and stick with parts ordered from TPS or Briskoda Accessories for any safety-relevant application like this.

As I'm paying the dealership to install these for me along with the mudflaps - I'll only be giving them the Skoda boxed pedals to install.

Very interesting.

I did find it slightly odd that my ones arrived in a jiffy bag (and wrapped in kitchen towels!) from SuperSkoda.

Hopefully they fit on just as snug!

Could you please share the manual? (phone pics would work)

I'm interested in removing originals. Pry off with some tool? Slide new ones on top? Some Glue? Screws?

Thanks :)

PS. Is the black part (front strips) plastic or rubber?

The black part is a very firm and solid rubber. Instructions attached - sorry for the delay!

Do the Superskoda parts actually claim to be genuine though, quiet often they sell parts that are of equivalent quality of OEM but are not ( I see they do, but even Skoda parts may vary based on production dates). Shipping without a box may simply be to save on shipping costs from CZ as a jiffy bag maybe cheaper.

Looking at the Superskoda site the 3V part numbers are their own internal stock catalogue numbers and not the Skoda part numbers. Looking at the larger image of the RHD manual seems to give the OEM part number which for RHD manual is 5E2064200 and RHD DSG 5E1064205

I have a motor bike and a lot of part numbers are different for their own system but are often made by the same manufacture.

So it would not surprise me if it was something similar.

Ultimately IF they are of the same quality AND IF they fit correctly then does it really matter?

Personally I prefer the SS throttle pedal as it is less curved, but will this make it possible to be fitted? I can’t remember what the pedal is like in the car?

Ideally we need someone to fit theirs .... Nick_H ??

Sorry ! I keep meaning to lol ! I'll see if I can get 'em on this after !

As I said its only a possible problem and the parts are extremely similar. If the SS parts had been in a box, had come with the instruction leaflet (why not at least ship that?) and had the same shaped acc pedal I'd never have thought twice.

As I'm asking the dealer to fit these, they've already said they can only fit genuine VAG parts.

Chad I purchased mine from Skodadop and they just came in a cardboard box wrapped in newspaper. Spoke to the guys their who have been spot on service wise.

They say they buy the pedals separately which makes them cheaper than the boxed kit and assured me they were the genuine article.

I also have my stainless boot protector to fit. Just rested that on yesterday and it looked pretty good !

Nick can you post photos of your pedals before you fit them so we can compare them to the SS and TPS ones please.

Will do.

Guess the question is what is the price difference ? If the price is 50% or more cheaper then maybe not an issue, however if they are priced very similar for a non genuine item, then IMO it does matter.

TPS sell them for £44.16

SS sell theirs for €39.99 (£28.78) + postage

Skodadop sell them for €55.46 (£39.90)

Well I had a quick look this after. Brake looks pretty straight forward but in the 5 minutes I tried no way could I get the throttle pedal on. I gave up :-D

Here's the pics make of them as you will !

How do you order from TPS, they don't sell to the public?

Some branches do or get a friendly mechanic to get it on your behalf

Was it not curved enough then? meaning that the other one that has been pictured is probably the right one?

No it looks like the right one. It's just getting the correct technique to get it to fit I think.

I'll not get another chance to fit for a week. I'll fire a mail off to Skodadop in the meantime.

Fitted my manual pedals from super skoda (Octavia 3 set)  all went on no problem at all.

They where not listed under Superb 3 but are now.

How is it in use? Slippery? Is a metal part scratch prone?

Care to take some pictures? (installed) :)

Nick,

Try leaving them in bucket of hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. Softens the rubber so easier to work with. Once the rubber cools it hardens again.

Thanks rufu I'll give that a go :-)
