Octy II vRS beats Golf GTI and Focus ST

Featured Replies

See group test in What Car Jan.2006 which fell thru my letterbox about midday today:cool:

 New golf sounds really good.Hope the new octavia vRS sounds the same.

Must buy this mag now:)

Edit

Been to the shop.Still stocking the December issue of What Car which I already have.Presume it is the January 2006 issue? (why do they confuse people like this!)

"It has taken a car of outstanding talent to oust the Golf GTI from its spot as our favourite hot hatch, but the skoda Octavia is thar car"

Looking forward to a spin even more now.:D

They tested an 05 plate. How did they do that then?????

Probably reg for press car.

Bought this mag today, and I saw the test. The new octavia looks very impressive indeed and I'm deffo gonna have a drive in one when they come out. One thing I dont like however, and this relates to all MkII Octavias is the new front grill. I dont like the way the sides of it are slanted to make the grill look like a trapezium, would be better of perpendicular like the MKI IMO.

Anyway, nice read and well done once again to Skoda.

The thing that appeals to me bout the onset of the new octy vrs, is that it isnt on every billboard, on the cover of every magazine, on every page of Top Gear mags guide to the greatest hot hatches of all time, and generally right in your face. What is the Focus lacking to make Ford have such a massive ad campaign. Some poeple im sure will be brainwashed into believing they are the best car ever to grace our roads, but the Skoda will just slip into the market quietly, and more than likely wipe the smug smile off the badge snobs. Who knows? I'm going to test drive both and make my own opinion obviously.

I can't wait for my test drive - going to have it for a day. Just for the experience, you understand...........

how many are you aiming for this time.... two?, three? or more?? :D

what cars are on the cover of the magazine?

kenny :-

vw eos, volvo c70, astra twintop.

This report is quite good for the vrs, I think whatcar look at the whole picture, not just the driving experience, not that the vrs failed to deliver.

I still think though that it should be put up against the gti 5dr and the st 5dr when comes out. Anyway full marks, I will be looking at a test drive soon, but when will it be in the showrooms for testing.

My problem is though, I rather like my 2L tdi, and diesel fullstop as the way forward, if only my wife will let me get it chipped!!!

I may have to blag a test drive in the new Octy vRS - see how it measures up against my mk1 :D

Having just watched Top Gear and seen the Focus ST, which Clarkson seems to like, I wonder what his views on the Octy II vRS would be? I wonder if they would even review it on TV?

I was wondering that too!

Not over convinced with Jezzers reviews, if you remember he trashed the 350Z when he first tested it, Subsequent reviews & sales have proved how wrong he was & if you ever get a chance to drive one you will see what I mean.

Fifth gear, tested the ST and still think the GTI is better, yet again no mention of the vRS!

yet again no mention of the vRS!

And long may it continue too! The choice of the enlightened!

surely the man is entilted to an opinion. Clarkson obviously likes drivers cars, or cars with a certain something, and for him the Nissan did not have it. The 350 is not brought by 'drivers' anyway, it's brought by posers, likepeople who buy the Audi TT. People who want a drivers car would more than likely spend

Clarkson also hates the Vauxhall Vectra, but you still see lots of them on the road too.

Interestingly he liked the Mondeo though, but that might have been in his pro-Ford run up to getting the GT ;)

lol.

difference is Ford make good driving cars, (love the way the new focus handles, just everything else is second best to the Octavia). Vauxhall don't. My dads hates his corsa as it's rubbish to drive.

Think it is only me that never ever tests the handling abilities of my cars.

Apart from a metro turbo that I know handled badly after I ended up facing the wrong way(more like bad driving though:O ).

Maybe people have more exciting routes to work than me?

Has anyone told Clarkson he can stop rse licking, He has got his 5 MPG ford :)

Let get real here folks the Octy vRS isnt going to make it onto TG becasue of the badge :) so there will be another reasonably well kept secret.:)

A bit like the Fabia vRS that never made it onto Top Gear then? So what if he likes the Focus? So what if 5th Gear like the VXR? At the end of the day we all have different criteria so there is no "best" car ;)

Aye. That Fabia vRS that was a bit rolly in the corners but a great car and out ran a Mini Cooper round the track?? Shame it was never on Top Gear:rofl:

I don't know about getting the car into the press for roadtest, Skoda should be keeping previous, current and prospective customers more informed than they are, I've recently done a bit of mooching around Ford,Subaru,Honda,Volkswagen & Skoda - and by far the worse response has been from Skoda - the dealer is very friendly, but basically has no more information than they had three months ago.

Honda's new Civic doesnt come out untill January, however I got a very rapid response to my request for information - including my local dealer ringing me and letting me know that although it wont be on display or available for roadtest they have received their first car and if I like they'll be happy to show me the car!!

And when you look at the prices and spec for the car it's a temting package.

You're at the wrong dealer then - mine sent me a fact sheet with specs, prices, dates and options on weeks ago.

Also, for the record - Astra VXR all the way!

yeah same for us. And then yesterday we got a leaflet through the door from skoda UK... with a mask included.. dr skoda  !!

Have to say handling wise i know vRS is lower and stiffer than mine but handling is something fabias dont do, believe me!!!!!!
