Google Chromecast Audio

Featured Replies

Has anyone got one?

Got mine a few days ago, have been playing with it. :)

Current setup is:

WIN7 PC running FOOBAR2000 with upnp/DLNA plugin.

Chromecast Audio

Nexus 4 running Bubbleupnp

TPA3116 amp

Tannoy E11 speakers.

I prefer FLAC over MP3 as this is my "main" music system. I found I couldn't FLAC from Windows Media Player 12 to the Chromecast. Even though I've previously managed FLAC playback via UPNP with a Raspberry Pi running XBMC/KODI.

Main irritation at the moment is it comes on at full volume every power up and its "pre-amp" level seems quite high.

Got miniDLNA running now on the Cubietruck. Pretty smooth installation really, found some recipes/advice on t-web.

I'll have to do a back-to-back comparison with my RPi vs the Chromecast Audio as regards audio quality. As regards "Value" though, the Chromecast wins.... Assuming you have a smartphone or tablet to run a upnp/DLNA control point on.

In DLNA terminology.

 - Server: Cubietruck running miniDLNA in the corner of the lounge.

 - Control point: Nexus 4 smartphone running Bubbleupnp

 - Renderer: Chromecast Audio
