Fabia Combi 1,9 SDI - Squeaking after engine start in cold weather

my Skoda Fabia Combi 1,9 SDI squeaks quite noisy after starting the engine. The noise disappers after a few minutes. The problem has been there about five years. The car has 180,000 km on the clock.

 

I made a short video (20 sec.) in which the squeaking can be heard:

 

The squeaking indicates which error(s)?

 Would suggest taking alternator belt off and trying from a cold start. Had similar on a Mercedes which was the alternator tensioner.

As above. That's either the aux tensioner or the alternator I'd say.

Thank you for your replies. I'll give it a try and report about it.

Remove the belt and have a look at the pully on the alternator its a clutch type and usually fails when the bearings ware out

I had something similar to this it ended up being a combination of both the tensioner and the crank pulley.

Pull the alternator belt off and the noise should stop, if not you need to check the timing belt, in particular the top idler.

You can then spin the tensioner and alternator independently.

If when you look at the belt there are areas of un even wear that points to the clutch on the alternator being suspect.

 

IMHO your sounds more like the tensioner or the Alternator being at fault.

Just had exactly the same issue sorted by my local auto electricians / alternator & starter motor specialists.

 

Pulley, bearings & belt replaced on the alternator which has made it extremely quite & all done for £90 fitted.

Hi. Just came across this topic as I need to replace the Tensioner on the wife's 1.9 SDi. Any tips on how to release the tension and then remove/replace the tensioner? Is it a big job or require and special tools (I have quite an extensive tool kit :nerd:    )

You can release the tension by using a 16mm ring spanner on the pulley bolt and pulling it against the spring whilst slipping the belt off. Been a while but I seem to remember it was 16mm.

 

Edit: Once the belt's off it's three bolts to remove the entire tensioner mechanism.

Refitting is reversal of removal?  What is the access to the bolts like? I hear that there is a pin that keeps the tension in check and this needs to be removed by adding tension and pulling out before releasing? Terrified of things that go pinging off - had a narrow escape many years ago with a coil spring compressor. Nasty!

I believe the new tensioner may have a keeper fitted which you can remove and 'ping' into the bin once fitted, yes.
