Coil pack recall

Featured Replies

I know this has been covered before but I just thought I'd check with Skoda about my coil packs, so sent e-mail yesterday afternoon, had a reply this morning asking me to call a specific person at Skoda uk.

So got through to the guy and he simply says hi Nigel, you can just book your car in at your preferred dealer and they will replace them " all " FOC, no mention of certain numbered versions he said all will be changed.

I thought it was going to be a bit of a nightmare but man it was so so easy.

Just thought I'd update haha

Too right, really can't complain.

Good they are still doing this.  Before I heard about this recall a few years ago I replaced mine at my expense.  I kept the faulty ones luckily and replaced them and got a new set which are now my spares :)

good call.

Yeah fair play to them. Don't be surprised if part numbers do apply. Sure someone on here recently had 3 of the 4 done, can't remember who though.

Part numbers do still apply, I popped in to my local dealer the other day and my car is still outstanding the coil pack recall. They did write down the part numbers that are affected but I can't find the bit of paper, sorry.

I'm sure if you do a search there is a thread with the part numbers on it.

Theres a main thread on it - somewhere. Pt number appllies and they will only change affected..

Superb. it used to be a nightmare as most VAG stock was 1.8T, or it seemed like that. So many dealers were emptying showroom cars left and right of coilpacks to keep customers moving.

The good old days :)

Mine were all changed only had one genuine one left, so that was really nice of Skoda.

Lucky boy. Maybe a mechanic had that TFI Friday feeling

I found the bit of paper with the coil part numbers but I can't remember if these are what they should be or are the recall numbers :dull::blush: ;

If I remember correctly someone on here said that they were now back around to "D" so perhaps they could repost that information.

Anyway there you are, somewhere between helpful and useless, sorry!

Due to this thread ive booked mine in next week to have them replaced. Even offered me a courtesy car to get to and from work while they do it. Happy days :)

What's this all about?

Someone explain it in a nut shell for me please? :-)

Way back in the early 2000's the 1.8T went through a phase where the ignition coil packs were failing left, right and centre. My old MK1 Octy vRS had all changed at my expense before they started the recall.

Failure was very common back then, and parts difficult to obtain so I always drove round with a spare one just in case. When the first one went the car would have been off the road for 4 weeks had I not managed to source another from a fellow Briskoda member.

Its not just the 1.8T affected though, My 3.7 V8 Audi broke down last year and Audi replaced all eight of the coilpacks FOC as the car had missed the same recall on the A8.

The ones I bought originally are a fetching shade of red (genuine VW I believe) and are still fine after a good few years under their belts.

So should I find out if mine need doing? Or wether or not they have been replaced etc. Will they just replace them if they haven't been changed?

Secondly, was driving along and had no boost. Turned off ignition, turned it back on and had boost again. Not sure if related or not...

Yeah i just fired an email to the local dealer to check if my car had been done under the recall. Mine hadnt and i booked in for next week. Nothing wrong with them just thought i may aswell have new ones since its free :) they even offered a courtesy car to get me to work and back... would be rude not to.

I'll be emailing my local dealer too :-)

Not necessarily, looks like it was done, problem already solved

Must admit, would've like to roll around in a new courtesy car for a day or so lol
