will 215/45/16 tyres fit

Featured Replies

Looking at getting some winter wheels and found some audi wheels with 215/45/16 tyres fitted...Will these be to wide or will they be ok?? Got a fabia vrs that is lowered...

Have searched but couldn't find a definitive answer, have checked the difference and the size isn't a massive difference.

Correct, the side wall is the same size as a standard VRS tyre (45) just the width is 10mm wider. Will be fine. Just get them and bosh them on. Just check the stud pattern and centre bore is suitable on the Audi wheels - some can be funny numbers.

Size wall number is not a fixed height, but a percentage of the width.

185/50/16 and 305/50/16 are definitely not the same rolling radius!

Width is in mm.

Profile is % of width

Wheel size is in inches.

205/45/16 has a profile height of 92.25mm

215/45/16 has a profile height of 96.75mm

They will be fine.

Any more than a 2.5% change in overall diameter is not recommended.

Good point did'nt factor rolling radius change as is a percentage of the width! good explanation cheers

You should also check the offset (ET) of the 'new' rims.

If this number is higher than the rims they are replacing, their inside edge will sit closer to your wheel arch liner at which point the extra 10mm tyre width may become an issue.

Eg.

Existing rim offset ET42

Replacement rim ET50 will sit 8mm closer to your wheels arch liner.

As above check the offset.

It's the same going the other way,you might get the tyres touching your arches/wings.

Your better off going to a slightly lower ET number ideally with a wider tyre/wheel,but not a lot lower.

Et is only 4 different from the spiders that are on so no massive difference. So fingers crossed they will be ok.

If it fits the drivers side rear, they'll probably be fine.
