Car finally collected - vRS TSI

Featured Replies

After about 10 weeks wait i finally have the new car in the flesh :)

I purchased the car through a broker so ended up with a 150 mile trip to go and pick the car up from ayr (ingrams) but it was well worth it for the savings. Dealer was brilliant and was left the car with a full tank of fuel but i'm wondering if there was a reason for this.

Had a quick check over and before i left i noticed a small chip on the N/S/F wheel arch. I know it'll pick up chips just as time goes on but its in a very odd place. So hopefully as i have timestamped photos it should get sorted without too much hassle. Having taken the car home through some pretty torrential rain it would also seem like the headlights have condensation issues. Has anyone else ran into this so far and is it something i should be looking at getting sorted?

Plans are for a bumper protector, dog guard and hatchbag to be fitted and in the future possibly a tuning box if it doesn't quite meet my expectations but the main purpose of the car is to be more practical and a little better on fuel and running costs compared to what i'm used to.

Coming from fairly hardcore cars i am pleased with the ride quality and cabin noise (or lack thereof), the lane assist is a bit weird but i can see its usefulness on a long boring drive and what did suprise me is that the start/stop isn't bothering me in the slightest.

So a quick overview:

Rallye Green

TSI

DSG

Sunset Glass

Front & Rear parking sensors

Winter Pack

Canton Sound

Variable boot floor - liking how this brings the boot up to being a nice flush level with the back of the car while allowing storage for jump leads etc underneath.

We shall see how things pan out over time but not one ounce of regret yet.

Stop start is good apart from when in traffic, it can be a bit annoying when it kicks in crawling traffic.

Beautiful machine, best of luck with her..

Welcome - enjoy yours vRS, I know I do!

Apparently condensation in the lights is normal...is it around the bottom where the DRL is? I have the problem on mine when it rains. Skoda say it's nothing to worry about. Annoying though as I've had other cars with Xenons and not had any problem whatsoever! Hey ho!

Hope you don't live too close to me, don't want too many Rallye Green, Tsi, dsg, with black pack, estates  in one area. :sun: you'll always get complimented on the colour, I do. The down side to this is you can't drive where you don't want to be seen because you will be. I have loads of small chips across the bonnet which only really show when washing or polishing with a light coloured polish. so go over it with the clear liquid extra protection stuff after to to wash the chips out. I've had 3 Octavia's  and they all suffered from chipping, think its the modern water based paints that's the issue. On dark coloured cars, my last was Rosso Brunelli (red) I used black polish, but  Rallye Green is too light.

A little  tip if you have the drive in eco all the time as I do, you will have noticed as soon as you release the throttle in free wheels. when approaching roundabouts etc, and don' t intend to stop. I pull the stick into "S" to slow the car and allow a quicker pull away, then back to drive.

Enjoy, after 16 months I still do.

Very nice mate, bold choice going Rallye Green..does suit the vRS!

Have you tried a small dose of cutting compound on the arch like T-cut and a polish afterwards, it might get it out assuming its not gone down to the primer.

Annoying on a brand new car but I like your outlook as it will get more.

My Mk7 GTD at 2 weeks old had something flick up at the rear drivers side arch and has three small chips in it, one of them down to the primer. I T-cut and polished it and whilst not perfect looks alot better....its a company car so didnt want to fork out for a touchup stick and I reckon it'd look worse if I touched it up anyway.

In your case I am sure the dealer will sort with no fuss, something that is very easily smart repaired that.

Thats a poor picture but I'm pretty sure that's a stone chip not transfer of paint from something else (it would be wider area if it was transfer of paint/material to polish out).

Using (sub standard quality) polish like TCUT won't make a difference on it I'm sure.

Just a paintpen on it, finish as required, forget about it. Nice car

That really does look fantastic ! That's the colour I would have ..... If I couldn't have red of course ;-)

p.s. Superbs also have the light condensation thing going on.... Nothing to worry about.

T-cut is a cutting compound not a polish.

Carplan stuff isnt fantasic but its affordable and largely does what it says on the tin and many people have a stray bottle of it knocking around as to why I suggested it. I wouldnt classify it as sub-standard for the job in hand but sure if its down to the primer it wont fix it....but it may serve to remove some of the lighter damage, take off the rough edges and make it less obvious.

Personally Id expect the dealer to smart repair it at their cost; unless you are v proficient at performing and finishing touch-ups its likely to look worse not better.

It looks like a paint chip so you don't want to put extra scratches with any of that ****e.

The problem requires bringing the paint up on the chip to the level of the rest of the paint not removing more paint! Paint chip repair. Just a dab of paint, probably on a very small art paintbrush transferred from a paint chip pen would cover it up !

TCut you said has the make up of "cutting compound"....think grinding valves into heads, is basically the same thing!

Although technically TCut is by definition a polish  just a very coarse one more akin to stripping off paint as you described as a cutting compound(!)

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/polish

"A substance containing chemical agents or abrasive particles and applied to smooth or shine a surface: shoe polish."

( I'm pretty sure don't even market it as cutting compound, they call it colour restorer so many people will mistakenly think of it as a FINE polish......very bad idea).

I agree though, if you can get dealer to do it ( it would be cheap anyway) then THEY should at their cost.

To use such a product is aimed at something of the uneducated layperson that doesn't realise the damage it can do. Your dealing with pain that can be microns thick, not shining up your brass.

Wouldn't touch the product with a barge pole personally (maybe if I'd run out of brasso and needed to polish some brass perhaps, in fact I've used it like that in the past as the wife had some lying about from before i met her and we didn't have any brasso lol)

Hey Rahr85. Love that colour. Enjoy your VRS. I've a metal grey one tdi, and love it. Regarding the condensation in the lights, I'm not too sure it is normal. I've not had any in mine in the three / four months I've had the car and I live in Manchester where it rains for fun. I know recently someone else had this and posted a thread and the responses where mixed with some never having it and others being told by dealers that it was to be expected. I know you've a 150 mile journey, but I'd maybe raise this with the dealer and gauge their response. Happy motoring!!

If you have xenons it mentions it in the manual and says it's normal.

Dealer will post up a touch up stick. That'll keep me happy as it'll pick up more and it is very minor.

Im not an avid car detailer so Ill freely admit I dont know it all, also T Cut is v abrasive and I have found that out to my detriment in the past but used with relative sensibility whilst it wouldnt fix it, it probably would make the chip look a little better and less obvious.

Certainly helped on my GTD. But I conceed there are no doubt better products out there....I just happened to have a bottle in the garage and its a company car so wasnt going to go to town on it.

I am sure the OP will get it fixed by the dealer to their satisfaction anyway.

Congrats. Sweet looking colour - but white is better :notme: (except you need a vRS so it doesn't look like a company ride).

Would go with the touch up stick and if not happy ask a local body shop to look at it (cash is king).

Great looking colour. I did fancy green but bottled it and went for race blue, looks fantastic in either colour but greens a little more special and a little less common. Oh and Ayr isn't so far to go, picked mine up at the start of october, in Brighton. Plenty of time to get acquainted with the car on the drive home.

I've bought many cars from the dealer in the background. Best dealer I've ever used from any manufacturer.
