vRS Wheel Size - Estate vs Hatch

Featured Replies

Am I right in thinking that the vRS estate has smaller diameter wheels than the vRS hatch? If so, why?

Is it because it will restrict suspension travel when estate is fully loaded or is it just that Skoda don't offer larger wheels on the estate.

I have noticed the same on Ford Mondeo estate too

Steve:confused:

Hatch has 17", Estate has 16"

The stance from Skoda allegedly, is that the Estate can't take the larger wheels as the chassis isn't as stiff as the hatch, due to the load space and lack of rear strut braces.

I have put 18" wheels on mine though, with no ill effects (so far), and the grip is vastly improved, as it used to understeer a lot. A few others on the site have done similar, and well before me, and no-one has reported any problems as yet.

If you are thinking about which one, go for the estate; superbly practical, and no-one expects the performance from it either :D especially when you get it re-mapped from Jabba  feels awesome now, and I get a lot of incredulous looks that a Skoda has just done them, AND it was an estate too...

I would like an estate car for the practicality (baby on way!) but don't want to buy a run of the mill estate. Plus i'd like to maintain a decent amount of performance, hence my interest in the vRS estate.

I pleased that 17" wheels aren't an issue, that will make it look more agressive and handle better (your signature says 18" rims - you've got even bigger wheels?)

Now performance....your running 60BHP over standard. How did you acheive this? What did Jabba do - just the re-map or other upgrades? What is the 0-60 time now - do you know?

Sorry about the 101 questions

Cheers,

Steve

estate vRS looks fantastic

Have a search... loads of threads on performance mods from jabba.

I got 18's put on about 7 months ago, and they are great, really help with the handling, and they don't really affect the ride badly at all. Just be careful to get tyres that don't have much of a 'shoulder', or they may rub. Mine are Toyo Proxes and they are fine.

As for the remap, I ALWAYS run the car on Tesco 99 RON. I took it to Jabba for a Boost Controller and remap (thats all), and they confirmed the fuel was doing the business as I had 190 as standard. The guy at Jabba was amazed, as he kept on tweaking the map upwards, and the engine just kept on going, so now I have 240bhp at full boost.:thumbup:

For me that is fine, I don't need any of the new air filters, FMIC (Front Mounted InterCooler), sports exhaust etc. etc., otherwise I just might end up doing something a bit too silly

I haven't timed 0-60, but it feels significantly faster than standard, so it must be high 6 or low 7 now. Go on, you know you want to, get the estate!! You should get a really good deal on the final few as the new one is out next month (bigger inside especially rear passengers, and 197bhp as standard)...

Those wheels look great. Are they Skoda wheels or aftermarket wheels with Skoda bagded centres?

Very tempted by a vRS estate but it will be a used vehicle. I'll have to keep an eye on the classified section and on Autotrader.

I had a quick look on Jabba website - presumably you went for the remap and rolling road option. Low 7's to 60 is where I want to be perfromance wise so this vRS estate with remap would seem to fit the bill.

look audi like to me....

Aftermarket V/W Audi style Diamond wheels from a place up near Manchester, found them on Ebay (trader advertising). Excellent service, and damn good price (£800 inc Toyo upgrades and Skoda centre caps).

I got my vRS as a used car as well. It was an ex demo that the Sales Directors wife had been pootling around in. 6 months old and 1200 miles on the clock, sweet!!

We test drove an octy estate a couple of weeks ago, it was in a nissan garage local to me, 54 plate, black magic with something like 7000 on the clock, up for

Correction. It's disappeared from the for sale section. If you want any details then PM me your e-mail and I'll send you some more info / piccies.

Changed mine to the 17" version of the vRS alloy and have experienced no problems whatsoever!. IMO 16" wheels do look a little small. Plenty of choice on e-bay should you decide to change.

i read somewhere that they fitted the 16" wheel to the estate to make the 0-60 time of the estate closer to the hatch... might be wrong though as i cant see there being THAT much difference in the performance.

i'd change my vRS hatch for the estate no worries... the vRS II estate is a very tasty looking car but at quite a higher price than the current shape.

i would expect a dealer to be dropping the prices of new vRS' very low at the moment so they can get the new ones in.
