All sympathy goes out to those who have been affected by the atrocities in Paris -- truly mind-blowing that anyone could possibly inflict this sort of carnage on any fellow human beings.

 

I must admit that I am amazed, shocked and distressed about the way this thread has descended into the collection of posts which are directly personal and extremely offensive to individual beliefs, and the disgraceful conduct of some of the members involved.............

Well said Mike - it's easy to see just from some of the comments in this thread how things could degenerate pretty quickly in real life and result in what has just been experienced in Paris, and is still being experienced across the world...   very sad to see.

Having been brought up in Croydon & gone to a school on the wrong side of the tracks, having lived in another country & been label as a "resident alien" (thanks uncle Sam), having both my parents lived through WWII & both my grandfathers served in WWI & WWII I have the following views...........

 

This country (UK) was founded & fought for internally & externally over make 100ys of years, (1000's). the general public has risen up & challenged the rulers, certain values have been made for everyone, & yes we are beholden to mainly Christian beliefs, some form the basis of our laws & cultures. 

 

If you come into this country you live our way & integrate otherwise why come here if you do not want to live our way of life? .........When I lived in (USA) I went to the local school etc., I did not demand my own school.

 

You want to bring your culture over here? ok but don't expect it to be law.

 

 

Really to put it short & sweet, we have the movie at the moment about the suffragettes, & yet they must be spinning in their graves because we have major problems in the country with forced marriages, (religious based) , slavery (same & cultural/country based).

 

We don't interfere in situations which as a white Christian I would be jailed for & yet are seen just as cultural norms for "them". ...However as a white Christian in their country (home background) I would have my hands chopped off or given 1000 lashes for upholding my cultural beliefs.......like that retired bloke in Saudi? who was drinking & has been given 1000 lashes?.     

 

Fairs fair as far as I am concerned, come here & integrate & live our way of live.......................or sod off...............

 

as for IS,several years ago there was a nice report done "speculating" about the rise & power push of IS & Islam....................wish I'd have kept it as it is playing out...................

 

 

pull up the drawbridge, do not interfere in the middle east, re-instate border controls................the people in those counties have to sort themselves out, we did .........if they just sit back & don't do anything & get us to do their dirty work when it goes wrong who gets the blame?..........us!!

This is the unfortunate thing....people forget that we in this country have strived, our parents did, grandparents did etc...........they want to be in the 21st century & have all the advantages it brings & KEEP their culture with out having to strive fro several 100 years etc.................................unfortunately the two seem to be not compatible.........

 

Compare the past few hundred yrs of industrial development & cultural change in Europe.....................now contrast that with the same time frame in the middle east...what did they do?.........& they want to jump forward to our 21st century industrial have it all?...................

Slightly more on topic than the recent discussions, I read (sky news), so far the majority of the group of attackers have been found to be nationals of French or Belgium.
