Skoda Fabia Battery light

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

It's my first post on this forum.

I own a Skoda Fabia with a 1.4 engine from 2004. Yesterday, when I tried to start it, the battery light didn't go off only after I started the engine and after half an hour of driving the mp3 shutdown. Now the mp3 doesn't turn on and the battery light is still on until I start the engine.

It could be a low battery problem?

I have to mention that I have this car for only 2 weeks. My model is from 2004 and was bought second hand.

The battery light should be illuminated any time the engine is not running, but the ignition is on.

the mp3? do you mean the head unit or a portable mp3 player that plugs into the cigarette socket?

I think he's talking about the head unit. Best way to sort this out is by using a multimeter and checking the battery voltage. You could also lift the bonnet and check if the accessory belt is in good shape and tight.

As above, check your aux belt for a start, plus check all your cables are attached to the battery.

If all the above is good then get your voltmeter connected to the battery, without the engine running you want to see just over 12 volts, start the engine up and your alternator should start charging and the voltage should show 13.5-14.5 volts roughly.

If the voltage does not rise with the engine running/revving your alternator will need replacing.

There's a complete engine for sale here

You could sell the injectors etc and make some of your money back

LOL :D

For a start the OP is in Romania :D

Secondly he hasn't got a VRS..........

Yes, battery connections are important. Check for corossion and if there, clean it and make sure the connectors are nice and tight.

You can delete your own posts if you make a mistake or double post you know. Just click 'Hide'.  Mods will still be able to see them but no one else will. It asks for a reason for deletion but it is purely optional whether you give one or not.

Quick & easy check for bad battery connections is to crank engine and check for any heating of terminal. At cranking current, any bad connection liable to cause problems will show up as terminal getting hot.
