Solutions for road/tyre noise.

Nope, they're claiming it's normal and fine to put two scratches in my alloy... "Been doing it for years" etc.

I am currently thinking about fitting an acoustic kit which the dealer can arrange to have fitted FOC.

Hi AGR100,  What acoustic kit are you talking about.  I have a new Karoq and  the wife a new Fabia and would be interested to know.

My Karoq has the fabric rear parcel blind and I'm sure this is not helping.

thanks

Hi Paul, thank you for your response.

Position is that my new Karoq (800 miles) has an annoying "drumming noise" (resonance) at low speeds particularly in town (Peebles, Scottish Borders) where the road is really rough. It is OK where there is a decent road surface and, say, on a motorway. Apart from this noise I like the car.

After discussing with the Edinburgh dealer ( who said there was nothing wrong) I decided to invest in an acoustic kit from https://www.nkgroup.co.uk/product/car-soundproofing-full-kit-no-engine-blanket/ who make a kit already cut to shape for the Karoq. I arranged for the dealer rep. ( who I know personally ) to ask one of their engineers to fit the kit, as it involves removing door panels etc. Unfortunately they have been unable to do this as all dealers are closed at the moment, so I am no further forward and don't know whether it helps or not !

I would , however, be interested to know whether your car experiences this drumming noise at low speed as I don't know whether it is just an issue with my car or whether it is a "generic" problem with the Karoq.

I look forward to hearing about any issues you may have?

Skoda UK has logged my "complaint" but are awaiting further info. from the dealer at the moment and. of course, everything is at a standstill

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there,

No my car does not specifically have this type of noise.  Just a general "more noise from the tyres" than I would have liked.  I came from a 10YO Tiguan (very similar size and as such I was pretty dissapointed that the noise at around 40Mph+ was way more than I was used to in the Tig.

Thanks

Paul

Ok, I think Skoda generally have a lot of road noise. My son drove an Octavia and said it was bad.

The Michelin tyres have a high DB rating!

I just don't know where my noise is coming from, it is just a drumming noise which seems to come right through the chassis. Historically I have had BMW and Mercedes so maybe I feel it more moving to a Skoda!.

If it is tyre noise the acoustic kit should help quite a bit, but it is quite an expensive experiment . The company I gave you seem to be quite experienced though re this type of problem.

I have the Korean tyres fitted which are for the most part very quiet,

but some road surfaces especially where a cheap resurfacing material

has been used or sections of motorway or A-roads that have heavy HGV

traffic esp. around junctions can cause a lot of tyre noise.

I think that sudden road noise can keep you awake on long trips 😉

Which tyres are fitted to your Karoq and what size,

& what tyre pressures did the car get handed over with and what have you set them to?

EDIT.

Hi I have the Bridgstone Turanza T001  215/50R18 92W and they are set to whatever it said in the petrol flap for normal use (not ECO or heavy load).  Don't recall the exact figure though 🙂

Is there a "best" pressure for that tyre?  On the old Tig I did run quite low pressure at one point as it was the Sport and rock hard suspension but I knackered the tyres (so I was told by the garage that failed it on the MOT for cracked rubber on tyres) as the rubber started cracking and I was told to crank them up from 33PSI to 38PSI on the replacement set (different tyres and car of course but you get my drift).

Cheers,

Paul

Best try them to the higher pressure and see, then maybe drop by 2 psi at a time seeing if any difference and maybe someplace in that range you might notice an improvement.

Do not over or under inflate for the load carried.

Hi,

Just checked and I am currently running them at 36psi which is on the upper end of normal 🙂

Not that I can do much testing at the moment 😞
