After just over a year with my PD100 Elegance, I ask myself, would I buy another one?

Although I'm a believer in you get what you pay for, and I didn't have the money for a VW, I'm still not convinced that I would replace with another skoda.

It maybe that my view's have been tainted by poor dealership service, taking 3 attempts to get a new rear bumper to be damage free, but when I got the car, one of the heated seats didn't work, I've had problems with the brakes where a balance weight had to be fixed, and a few other niggles.

It would take some work to persuade me to replace with another, especially on the aesthetics as I hate the new dashboard.

It seems like the car has been built without any finesse, simple things like the lights on warning buzzer is a cheap sounding buzzer, even my ford mundane had a pleasant bing bing thing.

Equipment wise, considering that the Elegance is the highest trim level, they have a long way to go before they catch up with other manufacturers, my Bluebird LX (one above base model) had Electric windows all round.

  • Ooooo..... so cheaper than a VRS Fabia? I bet that much of a saving would require the Fabia to do a lot of miles for the MPG to come into play. Bargain.

I would definately buy another Octavia vRS

I am now trying to convince my parents to get an Octy II (non vRS) when they get a new car :)

NO HESITATION. .........................................................................Yes!!!!

Unlikely - too much went wrong (and cost me to fix!) on a 3 year old car, including being left stranded in the middle of nowhere when the clutch pedal snapped. Car had been serviced and maintained by Skoda dealers on the dot. :(

Chris

Yep - been impressed by the whole package, so far. Octy would be a possibility in 4-5yrs time, fingers crossed they've mastered mating the DSG and 4x4 together by then, that would make a great combo IMO. And depending on what diesel options have come along...

i would yeah, fabia being now 5years old will need replaicing soon, i would like to see a dash thats more thrilling than the one now but it does boast the simplicity of design winning car of the year for 3years cant be bad! what car still gives it 4stars...it isnt easy change the reputation over night but skoda maneged it and there still very good :) but all cars have things that go wrong just sometimes you get the bad ones 80k my fabia is still better than my friends cars:) and there all impressed

Yeah definatly, the Fab VRS would knock the MK4 VW GTI in to the distance. The skoda dealers, though far from perfect still are far better then VW who are nothing less than shocking in my experience. Dont think because VW's are more expensive that they are better.

Quite seriously any Ford IMO is more reliable than a VW.

Dont know what it is about them. After all Skoda are near the top in the customer satisfaction survey, VW way down the order, using many common parts.

Yep, I'd buy another ... a VRS combi with leather and lecky windows all round would be cool

not sure yet

until the warranty ran out the answer was a certainYES but since then things seem to have gone downhill... what an amazing co-incidence:rolleyes:

and skoda cust "service" hasn't helped :( or having to return the car several times to get faults fixed

will be trying the new vRS with interest but it will have to be very good to justify the price increase IMHO 18200 for the estate vRS is about £1000 too steep

I think the old one had a very good blend of price , power and very balanced handling ... just hope the new one still has that:)

Oh and a system that will play MP3' would be nice

Another not sure, happy with my car, but bought it on the back of reading high praise for skoda. However not happy with squeaks and rattles, for such a new car with supposedly great build quality.

Will have to stick with it for a while though, so time will tell

 No complaints yet! Dealer had two stabs at trying to correct a "stripped" brake problem and that's it.

Nothing but praise for the car (05 Fabia VRS). If i'm still saying the same in a few years then i will be very happy!

Yes.

Unless Citroen make the C lounge using someone elses engine, electrics, materials and quality control

Doubt I'd have another one.

The first Octy Vrs we had suffered with an engine management light coming on too often but that got nicked anyway and we've had no problems with that.

Fabia vrs seems to spend a lot of time at the dealers.

This is my second vRS ... both Mk1's .. and I deliberately wanted to get the Mk 1 when I changed a year ago .. IMO it looks better than the facelifted one ...

And I will deffo have another ( Mk1 if I can get a new one (!) )

Seems to me that we only hear from folks that have had problem cars ... There are good and problem cars with EVERY manufacturer .. even Jap .. I have to say that in 90,000 miles of Octy vRS motoring it has not seen a dealer other than for a regular service .....

And the 'quality' of the lights on bing bing noise isnt going to make me change cars !!!!!!!!!!

Ogs

Yep I would buy a Skoda again. I've had a few faults on mine but nothing major. Service from the dealers can vary, where I bought the car from kinda sucked a fair bit, but since changing it's been great!

Darn.Another poll where there are two options I could choose

I'm seriously considering an Octy II TDi vRS when they appear. Wouldn't have the petrol though.

Skoda, let's see something diesel and silly - a 300bhp diesel Octy or Superb and I'll buy it tomorrow!

I'd have another..... probably still a diesel but with a bit more power than the one I've got now ;)

As for what I'd like to see.... I don't know if Skoda offer this already, but in this weather, what I'd like would be a quick-clear screen!

Yes I would buy another.

It's been very reliable in 2.5 years and 68k miles and a nice car to drive and own.

I would also consider other makes but a new octavia is still just about favourite

I'd have no problem owning another skoda (on my second octy now) but only if they make a car that I would actually want to buy as there is nothing that interests me in the new models.

A skoda roadster would be great (as long as it didn't look too much like the TT)

A nice big V6/8 octy with decent styling would probably get my cash too.

I'd like to see a Skoda 4x4 offroader and a Skoda 2 seater sports car

What's the position with the proposed 'Tudor' coupe? Is it entering production? If so, when? Anyone know?

Steve

Can't imagine skoda are ever going to do anything away from their basic formula.

Small family car,medium family car,big family car.The people's car

Might be proved wrong and a 175 mph roadster with green calipers might appear:rolleyes: :)

Can't coment on whether i would have another one yet, but i would like to see wing mirrors with integrated indicators on the fabvrs, mp3 stereo, leather seats, rain sensor wipers....i know, i know, i don't want much do i

I've been reading the comments with interest, and it seems quite a mixed lot so to say.

I know that all cars can have their problems, and dealers can be poor, but there are still things I would like to see in new models, firstly a dashboard that makes sense - The speedometer is poor, with marks at 20, 40, 60 etc when the vast majority of speed limits in the UK are 30, 40, 70 so why can't we have clear marks on these, after all, it is a UK specific dashboard so we don't have to pander to the eurocrats.

Overall, the feel of the car is good, especially given the price, and the fuel economy is great when driven sensibly ;)

But there are features I would like to see in new models, like heated front screen, better stereo's as standard (I didn't realise how poor the factory fit ones were until I changed to a kenwood)

Granted, most people could add things to even a luxury car, but minor trim adjustments such as lights behind the door handles inside & rear curtesy lights would be a nice feature.

Some of the items are quite gimicky such as 'Intelligent Indicators' and 'Rear Wipe when going into reverse' which I'm sure are something put in for salesmen to try and impress potential customers. Personally I don't like the rear wipe thing, as more times than not, I can see quite easily though the damp rear window until the thing smears it so I've got to then wash it so I can see what's going on.

Maybe I'm too cynical, but I would much rather see real practical additions to the car.

Rant over  (for now)
