Who wants to buy American crap, especially the cars.?

With the exception of the odd halo model they are pretty dire.

Ford is North American and they build cars in Europe as well as other places, and the profits go back to the US.

 

The new Focus RS will be selling quite well, the Fiesta is the UK best seller and ST models are quite well rated.

I think Americans build cars that many buy Globally.

Or a Camaro, or a Stingray, or a Tesla, or a Viper.   One could say the US (plus Oz US arms too maybe ie Falcon etc) is the only country to do super car performance for the working man's price range.

It may be foolish but VW have some valid legal points. I find myself wondering if VW will consider withdrawing from the USA market altogther since it appears that the liability could be so large and so open ended that the company could be bankrupted unless bailed out by the EU and I'm not sure even the EU could save them.  My own view is that the US onslaught against VW is disproportionate and that the US operate dual standards that discriminate against foreign companies. VW could draw a line in the sand with the US administration and agree a fixed sum to be paid but they could not reach a position against private litigation that could drag on for years. Is pulling out of the USA possible? I don't know but there has to be a size of liability at  which the USA market is simply untenable for VW. If VW leave, they would probably  have to throw some cash at owners of the offending cars even to the point of buying them all back and scrapping them but then they can say we are not paying any more, we're leaving. After that, if they are effectively forced out of the country, VW service and repair can be sorted out by Uncle Sam!  After all if you thrash somone to the point where they cannot do their job then they just cannot do it! VW owners could blame their own government for driving VW out. Another scenario is that the US Govt want Fiat Chrysler to buy up VW on the cheap but that is a whole different discussion.

Did they pursue American ratings companies that were involved in the AAA rating of what so many knew of as 'junk' quality mortgage bonds which included a high % approved to those unemployed

Americans are still 'mad-as-hell' over those who not only escaped any form of personal punishment but have never been more obscenely rich.

Remember the only ones jailed were a Frenchman and an Englishman in Singapore.

In this case a clear example of double standards........should we expect anything else.

Maybe time to try to move on.  Trade your car in if it really has a problem or is causing you sleepless nights over emissions.

VW will sort it for you, recompense if you lost out anything.

Ford can sell or lease you a car that has no cheats,

maybe even not on a finance scheme that is not Subprime lending & Pyramid Banking like the VWG's.

Went to my local skoda dealer yesterday. Was talkin to them abt the "recall". He said no real point in having it done as wont affect the car or fall foul of legislation.

Who were the 'Them'.  A Sales, Reception or Service employee or a qualified Volkswagen Group Technician, or maybe the Principal Dealer.

 

I would put real cash money that none of 'them' you spoke to will put that on the Dealerships Headed paper in writing and sign it.

It was the service department i spoke to. And that was unofficial i know

Just think about it. 

Skoda car sales are down, VWG car sales are down and Dealerships are closing.

The Volkswagen Group are suffering and they promised honesty, but this is just a bit too honest for Employees jobs.

 

Now employees in Skoda Dealerships will be doing VWG work on the Fix.  Supposedly Qualified Technicians.

People with the Diagnostic Gear and an idea and training in using it.

 

Only given as a 20 minute job in some cases, but many will say be 1 hour or more, 

So car arrives, keys handed over, courtesy car signed over, etc etc.  

Average £100 Invoice from Skoda to the VWG.

 

Skoda service desk employees are like Turkeys Voting for Christmas when they say things to put Customers off getting the fix.

A justification, it seems, for pursuing civil AND criminal charges against a foreign owned company for the very reason that they didn't take that action against their own financial sector executives.

How convenient!

Here is an idea for VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda in the UK.

 

They hold Open Days at a few big Main Dealerships before March.  A few in England, Wales, Scotland & Northern Ireland.

They hire portable Dynos.

People with a Euro 5 TDI due 'The Fix' can go along.  

Their car goes on the Dyno.

Then the car is given 'The Fix' by VW Trained technicians and this is filmed and put online.

Then the car goes back on the Dyno to show there is no change for the worse.

 

Easy and great positive publicity if 'The Fix' results in no loss of performance.

 

If there is they can show VW, Audi, Seat & Skoda Sales executives offering the recompense or buy back offer they are prepared to make.

Maybe why the Websites do not already show a Fix being done on a 2.0l,  1.2l & a 1.6l & the results.   

and done on owners cars that have a Fuelly account.

Probably this is my last car and I for one will be leaving it well alone

If the software can only "manage" the amount of gas going through the EGR and also, to some degree, limit the combustion temperature which reduces the amount of NOX produced, but also effectively limits the HP and torque, then it is understandable that the software fix is not sufficient for either side ie EPA or VW as it will leave both parties deficient of the minimum requirement of air quality and/or drive-ability.  For NOX control it appears technically necessary to have sufficient post combustion treatment of the exhaust gases, via SCR and any other treatment methods to dis-associate the Nitrogen away for the Oxygen atoms again.  

 

This leaves either retro-fitting SCR or pulling the affect diesel cars off the road via a buy back or swap system which is what I hope happens for the US and hopefully here in the UK too to improve air quality in those polluted areas like West London, Heathrow etc where I often work.  Hopefully Zac Goldsmith or Sadiq Khan will stick to their promises to extend the ULEZ quickly to cover most the area within the M25 or adopt alternate evens and odd registration days, or use electric or hybrid, or a similar effective scheme.

 

Question remains is VW the main offender in scrimping on the exhaust gas emission systems to save a few tens of Euros/pounds or are other big diesel sellers ie BMW, Ford, GM, Nissan-Renault, PSA, Toyota equally guilty and just have not been exposed yet.  A software fix limiting such cars to a cylinder temperature limit at which NOX is little produced unless vehicle fitted with SCR or like seems the only answer for those vehicles wishing to enter urban areas during pollution sensitive times which, as we know with London's number plate recognition systems can be implemented.  Going to be an interesting London mayoral election issue but for the safe of the tens of thousand of Heathrow job connected to the third runway and for the sake of the UK economy I hope they can sort out PDQ.

Today Wednesday has been the day that the New CEO has been reported as meeting with those that matter in the US.

So we will see what a great communicator he is and can he do some fantastic deal given the way they have managed to stuff him up with 

press releases before he meets.

None of this stuff in the United States of North America has much to do with what the Volkswagen Group are getting allowed to do in the UK / EU countries to meet not very high (Low) Emission Standards.
