Spontaneous unlocking

Featured Replies

On two occasions my car has spontaneously unlocked, unfolded the door mirrors and lowered every window. On each occasion the alarm warning light was still flashing so I can only assume that the alarm was still set. It's going to the service centre to be checked out but, meanwhile, I'm somewhat paranoid about parking it anywhere other than at home - especially when it's raining!

Has anybody else experienced this problem?

Car has KESSY, which may be the cause of the problem, but I can't reconcile this with the windows being lowered.

That would suggest the unlock button on the remote is being held down, or, at least, the car is receiving a signal that replicates that. Definitely no possibility of either key being in the vicinity when this happens?

Used to happen to me quite regularly, and always during a heavy downpour, much to my annoyance. I put I down to unwittingly sitting on my keys.

Disabled auto window opening via key fob with VCDS, and problem disappeared.

On both occasions it has happened overnight - keys in house and immobile so no question of any buttons being held down.

This happened overnight so no question of any buttons on key fob being pressed. I will investigate the auto window opening - it appears possible to disable it via the CAR button on Columbus so I'll give it a try. Not sure why anybody would want to open all the windows with the key fob anyway! Thanks for pointing me in this direction.

On a hot day (yes, they do happen!) it's nice to be able to air the car before getting in. I was really pleased discover this function on my old Focus.

I had a problem with the boot release button on my key being held down in my pocket. I've rearranged the keys on my keyring and that seems to have fixed it.

It's been reported about on various VW group cars as well as other makes. Problems like moisture on internal door switches to software updates, as what happened to our 2009 Seat shortly after a second hand main dealer purchase. My first mk2 Octy dropped all windows at 70 mph.Never repeated itself.

Sounds like it is a case of a button being held down, which will unlock the car and lower the windows. If you don't open a door within a few minutes the car will lock itself again and the alarm will set.

My old Mk1 vrs did this (all windows down) trick during very cold or very wet weather. Common issue on golf Mk4's too. Turned out to be moisture shorting the connector pins at the central convenience unit in the drivers door. Pins eventually corroded needing a new unit and loom. This happened when the car was only 3 years old.

Could this be a similar issues surfacing on the Mk3?

I think every case so far has ended up being the remote, but there is always a first!

Could be plausible with the amount of water a mk3 holds in the drivers door!

Is the water being held in the door OR on the sill.
