A few issues, are these worth a trip to the dealer?

Featured Replies

I've had my my16 vrs estate for 6 months now and I have got a few niggling issues. I'm not sure if these are common problems that are worth a trip to the dealer to be told there's no issue or fix. My cars on a 2 year lease so the keys will be handed back and I won't have to live with the problems.

Here's my list...

- Drivers door filling with water

- Annoying B pillar rattle

- Headlamps steaming up around the DRL

- Coming off a speed bump I get a running noice from the front suspension. Can't explain it like somethings loose.

Are these worth a visit to the dealer?

How long till your first service?

The water in door is a common complaint and there are a few threads on this.

I've also seen a thread on the b-pillar noise.

The headlamps are probably a loose cover on the back allowing moisture in. You can dry it with an air compressor or hair dryer on low heat, then reinstall the cover.

Suspension noise is always a cause for concern.

Check out those threads and decide. If a service is coming that woulf be a good opportunity, but suspension noise us something to get checked.

The suspension noise is always cause for concern so I would take a trip to the dealer if you think it is a mechanical sound.

For the other issues, they are minor but a good dealer should already know about these:

- Drivers door filling with water

-> Known issue & some dealers know of a fix (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/376379-water-collecting-under-door/)
- Annoying B pillar rattle

-> Many people complain about this also with varying degrees of solution (felt pad, silicon spray etc)
- Headlamps steaming up around the DRL

-> The is clearly a fault with the light assembly, they should not allow any water or condensation inside.

As it is winter, it will be wet often & lights quality will be quite important when driving in bad weather conditions at night so I would get this to the dealer before it develops into a more serious problem.

depends if they really annoy you or not? For me if it was a lease car I'd only take it in for the suspension noise as the others are less likely to effect your safety.

So to answer the question, yes I would get the suspension issue looked at if nothing else.

Condensation in the light cluster is normal. It's been discussed at length on here before.

Get it sorted if only for the next poor s**

I've got the first two and I'll be looking at booking mine in for the new year. Its the rattle in the B pillar that's really paining me.

I'll be discussing with the dealer before it goes in to make sure it's not a wasted visit.

Doors filling with water....no they all pretty much do this to some extent...particularly MQB platform based cars.

B pillar rattle....no...unless you want your new car pulled apart with risk of trim damage or making it even worse. My mk7 GTD does this as did my last one....and my mk3 elegance.

Headlamps steaming up around DRL....no....completely normal....the lamps are not hermetically sealed and this is a normal environmental issue with it being cold and damp outside and the DRL getting warm. My Mk7 GTD does this as did my last one. If the condensate is heavy, dripping and causing water to pool in the lamp enclosure then fair play this is an issue and could indicate poorly sealed lamp units.

Suspension noise....yes....might be as simple as a bush requiring a dab of grease but if in doubt get it looked at.

Having had 2 O3s with Xenons now I still haven't suffered from condensation in the headlights.

Maybe as I do approx 20k pa the lights are on for longer periods and therefore dry the units out sufficiently?
