Dash bulb out warning light

Featured Replies

Hi all

Just a quick question. Today I have had a dash warning light come on telling me a bulb has gone. Ignition off and on again and the light goes off for a while, then comes back on again. The problem is, at the moment having checked every bulb, there are none blown. Could it mean the resistance of a bulb has changed causing the dash light to light up. Meaning a bulb is on the way out but as yet, it still works.

Hi

I had excatly the same problem mine was one of the near side tail lights but it would only actually not work for about 20 seconds and although the bulb out would stay on the bulb would actually work normally after 20 seconds of tuning the lights on. So you need to maybe get sombody else to be stood outside the car ready to check the bulbs as soon as you turn on the lights just incase you have a similar problem to me

Hope this helps

Thanks mate I will give it a try.

Check fogs and brake bulbs aswell as there easy to forget about when having a quick look.

Once I had a situation when my car showed the light bulb warning but I couldn't find any bad one. Then next time I started the car this light was gone...

Such weird things happen.

Don't worry, I checked those as well. I always check brake lights on my own by putting a piece of wood on the front of the seat and press it onto the brake pedal and then having a look. All those are working perfectly. Just can't find a faulty bulb!

Take out the bulbs and refit them. I had the light on the dash did that and not had a problem since.

Don't forget to check the number plate lights too and the little W3W bulbs that make up the 'C' shape...

It may be a bulb that is still working but is about to fail. I had an intermittent Bulb Warning for a few days, but all bulbs appeared to be working. A few days later one of the front headlights had blown.

Maxidot is a fine thing as it tells you which bulb is flagging as faulty.

I had a headlight fail, but only on inspection could you see the filament had partly fused together but it still worked albeit with a slightly yellow light.

Cheers guys for all the advice. I am sure I have checked all bulbs, but when I have time, will take out as many as possible to look for any problems visually. Will keep checking them most days in case a faulty one gives up the ghost. Why can't the warning light light up only when the bulb has completely blown and the circuit is broken. Would make life much easier!

I have just as you said, taken out all the rear bulbs and refitted them. I even replaced each one with a new one, still the same. Noticed that the nearside fog/side light has a dual bulb, which usually means that the fog light that side should work. Even with a new bulb fitted, only the sidelight worked. I think like a lot of cars, only the offside fog light lights up. Why do they fit a dual bulb if it's not meant to fully work? Anyway, whilst fiddling with the bulbs noticed the nearside brake light go off. With a tap, back on again. At last found the culprit. After a bending of contacts all seems okay again. If it does happen again, might have to get a new plastic bulb holder. Thanks Simon, I think that's done the trick.

Probably as it's easier to have shared components and then turn the fog lamps on/off via software as the car is manufactured.

If you want both fog enabling there are a few of us who can do it :)

Thanks mate, but seeing as though I can't remember when it was so foggy I used them, not worried about getting the second one working. Just glad it's meant to not work, rather than it's not working due to a fault.

It is. Except when it's telling you porkies! Mine has had an intermittent bulb failure warning on the dash for a while. Today, maxidot tells me 'right main beam failure'; but all is well. I have the factory fit self-levelling xenons on my Scout - if that makes a difference...

The blown bulb warning can appear if a bulb is about to fail i.e. if the filament is weakening.

So on initial inspection all is well.

You might find the bulb will eventually fail. Probably best to replace it now, and remember to replace in pairs.

Hi guys , I have also currently got the same fault . Yesterday I resorted to replacing all 6 bulbs in both clusters and both smaller r5w ones as well. As soon as I turn the lights on the warning comes up telling me it's on the left rear sidelight . Checked no.plate lights , fog light and brake lights all ok. Car is due for MOT in a couple of weeks and I am gradually losing my hair ! HEEELLPP
