12V socket is ALWAYS on? Skoda Fabia II

Recommended Posts

So.. Car audio direct say I need this kit:

Because I apparently NEED a CAMBUS/canbus (or something along those lines) kit for digital to analogue? Despite not having steering wheel controls? Really?

Would this do?

You don't need a canbus adaptor. If you don't use one, then as mentioned earlier you will need a switched live feed from the fusebox instead.

I'm not sure if that eBay link comes with any wiring adaptors but looks right for the facia side of things.

I'd really suggest you pop down to a local car audio place and get some first hand advice.

If you have some rough prices from eBay I'm sure you can come to an agreement where you supply the parts (they can show you exactly which) or they supply the parts at a reasonable price. This will save you potentially ending up with parts you don't need or even worse, ones that aren't right.

Original headunits can read and utilize a multitude of parameters from the CANBUS line, the state of the engine being only one of these. Others are whether the car is locked/unlocked (for early unit initialization), the speed (for automatic volume compensation), the state of the headlight switch (for automatic button illumination) and so on.

I suspect that the aftermarket unit you have does not utilize all of these parameters, it only needs to know whether the engine is on or off in order to shut itself down. Therefore, I believe that the CANBUS converter you referred earlier only reads the state of the engine and translates it to either power on or power off for the unit. You can achieve that by installing a new wire from the fusebox to the unit and connecting accordingly the switched 12V cable, avoiding extra costs.

You do need the special adapter to plug to the KENWOOD though, and the second link you provided does not include this.

Really, you should consider leaving the whole thing to a car audio specialist. It should cost the same and save you from the fuss.

Hmm OK. I'll ask these guys:

http://www.topbananamobile.co.uk/stereos.htm

And get em to fit it at work considering they're "Mobile"

This being said, at Halfords, it's £200 for the stereo, £30 for the fittings (or so I'm told) and £30 for labour, so... £260

Halfords didnt say any thing about needing some fancy fitting equipment tho! And course "topbanana" is also local, so I guess it's worth going there!

Guise

Just to say, regarding the stereo bit, I popped in to Halfords today, as I noticed that their stereo came down to reasonable levels in price (And they only charge £30 for install)

In the end, they also were showing me a kit similar to the "CTKSK01" to go with the vehicle. I've found a mobile installer, who will install it all for £50, and as they're mobile, I guess it can be done from work (Or my day off. Probably best on the day off!)

Halfords wanted to charge at least an additional £100 for the other stuff + installation costs, so around £280 or so..

I now know I require the following:

Stereo:
Kenwood DPX406DAB Double Din Car Stereo DAB/BT/CD/MP3/USB/AUX/iPod Inc Aerial

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351378361282

Fascia kit:

CTKSK01 SKODA FABIA 2007 ONWARDS DOUBLE DIN STALK ADAPTOR FASCIA PACKAGE KIT

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380695068095

This comes with a free "CTKENWOODLEAD" patch cable, which I've been told I need

I stressed to Halfords and another company selling this, that I do NOT have steering wheel controls, and they told me I require this

All in all parts come to £201.68

Labour should come to ~£50

Total: £250. Not too bad for maybe four years use out of the car, before I sell it on again :D (and then a 2015 car would hopefully already have all that built in)

Hi,

So Im looking for two "add a fuse" things or "piggyback" things, but not sure what to get?

Would two of these be OK?
