key fob battery

Featured Replies

Hi

Mine is a 1year old fabia3

after 1 year i saw the warning sign to change the battery... and offcourse i got shocked!

changed the battery with a duracell cr2025 (the same code as inside / it was a panasonic) after 1week again the signal warns for to change...

did anyone solved the problem cause its not with the battery i can lock/unlock the doors from the sky but warns to change it still, why?

p.s. i also bought a spare battery and keeping it inside the car for to keep my mind relaxed a bit :)

happy driving for all...

I had warnings that my key battery needed changing. managed to change it OK quite quickly but I cannot seem to reprogram it. I have followed directions in manual. also looked on line. I tried pressing button on key and inserting key in door lock then locking/unlocking before withdrawing key with no success. On line it advises putting square key in ignition & turning on & following process with key in lock.  I have the Kessy ignition which is just a push button so cannot insert key in ignition. Any suggestions ideas please??

I have KESSY GO on my hatch. 14 months and 10k miles up came the warning. Wandered off to Hortons, my local dealer, battery changed within minutes for a grand total of £2.40. Just had time to grab a coffee....even that is good.

Happy bunny. Hortons just seem to be on the ball, every time.

Just changed the battery, the first one lasted 11 months this one has lasted 9 months hope key fob is not on a downward spiral Joe

I'm told that key fob battery life depends upon overall time that car is driven....more use, less battery life...as key "talks" to car all the time it is in use. Sounded reasonable to me.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but we also are having problems with the key fob battery life. It’s around 3 months for both fobs. While the car was in for service,in January, the dealer changed the Battery in my fob. This lasted just over 3 months. The response from the dealer was that according to Skoda this is acceptable and they would only do something if it lasted under 3 months🤬 I’ve just sent off a complaint to Skoda customer services.

Has anyone had their key fob replaced under warranty?

Mark

Forget the exact details but depending on the type of fob remote system - if you keep both fobs close to each other and within range of the car they can compete with each other and/or the car to interact and wear themselves down, always remember computers are basically very stupid.

Thanks for your reply, both keys are kept separately in Faraday pouches.

I’ve just changed my battery for my Fabia remote and also for my spare key. Last time was about 6 months ago. Both keys were working then. The spare key is not working now even with a new battery. It won’t unlock the car. Anyone had this or can suggest something. The old battery hasn’t leaked and when I put it in my main key it had a little bit of life in it.

what can go wrong with the remote keys?

(ETA: see also next post.)

For my wife's remote, the Driver's Handbook (Operating Instructions) will guide (see below).

Another tip, don't have a car remote and a spare have two that you use alternatively (at whatever time gap suits you) on the car, that way the remotes wear evenly and you always know where the "spare" remote is and that it works.

ETA:

Just remembered, for those that aren't used to key blades, and the preparation time for the activity. -

My dealer changed both key fob batteries on the 5th May, yesterday got the replace key fob battery warning. Just over 4 months.

My dealer isn’t interested saying they only expect them to last 3-6 months. The car doesn’t even have keyless entry.

My Jags Keyless fobs lasted 4 years.

Just sent another email to Skoda customer services.

Well after yet more battery changes, my dealer has eventually replaced both key fobs. Fingers crossed for batter battery life.

Mark.

I have the normal plip key and am still on the original battery from 2016 / 68K miles.

Hope yours is now sorted.

Thanks, AG Falco

I replaced the original Panasonic batteries in both keys for my wife's August 2015 VW Polo at the maybe 6 year mark, with new Panasonics - just to avoid any issues, purely PM.
