Another post to cause anarchy...

Back again boys!

Does the mk2 Vrs have a plastic under engine/ sump shield?

Just curious after doing a service- has a garage taken it off and dumped it, or did they never have one on?

Thanks!

You have some plastic covering behind the front spoiler.

The Sump drain plug for the oil change is easily accessed and nothing needs removed.

That's what I was thinking!

Just wanted to check, as with other motors they've had covers from the bumper back to the bulkhead under the engine bay.

This one was a doddle to do the oil change without fighting plastic shields!

Cheers.

If anyone's got a spare one, my 2012 1.6 Fabia TdiCR suffered a hernia in last year's snow & I'd like to replace it.

The one off my old car is in a hedge near Northallerton if you want that? Not sure if it's the same as the VRS or not, or if you could glue the pieces back but you can have it if you can find it.

"Another post to cause Anarchy..." do you know how I check my oil? I wait until the "low oil" warning comes on ;)

Hot or Cold?

On a more serious note, did you suffer in the awful floods?

I feel  so sorry for the people of Carlisle, Keswick, Kendal, etc. I  know well the glass topped walls in Keswick and simply can't believe that they were overtopped. I have walked the railway line path from Threlkeld to Keswick and it is unbelievable that the Greta took down one of the beautiful bridges, the A591 by Thirlmere . . . where will it all end?

sharkrider you have always said you wait until the light comes on,

but also that your engines do not use oil.

So how often over 4 years and lots of miles have you had a warning light for low oil on the CAVE or the CTHE you have and then how much oil did it take to get it back up to the correct level from a warning light coming on?

or are you just kidding.?

OK, got the answer i think.

Post #60 (page 2) gave me a laugh, you have changed your mind on spark plugs now i assume.

vxh26 / vxh28,

i like here 22 months ago where you know nothing about the engines and oil, not even which engine was which,

to now where you know everything, and  between times you still have never bought a Twincharger.

it has been pretty awful, I cant believe the new flood defenses failed either, it was worse than last time basically, and its been raining all night and its still raining now... about to go out and see if I can pass roads.... a lot of bridges are buggered, I still cannot believe the 250 year old pooley bridge is gone :( my house doesn't flood, so I'm lucky. i feel really sorry for the people who have suffered again.. carlisle was hit harder than before too.

yeah, on the contrary, my CTHE uses about a lire every 4,000 miles or so depending on how I drive it (more driven by pupils, less being caned around tracks, never uses a drop on the annual ring trip! (thousands of hard miles!)  can use as much as a litre every 2k just doing lessons!) but i guess thats the link you found...

my CAVE never used a drop.

and yes , I did a u-turn on the plugs, but let me tie it together for you.....

40k faultlessly on plugs on the CAVE, but it didn't use oil....

a plug change every 10k on the CTHE because they fail (although the NGK7's have been much better!) and you know why ? sooting up..... (grey ash deposit)  the damage to the plugs is burning oil thats killing them... if my car didn't use oil, they wouldnt fail.... much like the CAVE engined plugs.

so tied together there....

the end result is, I have to change the plugs.... but my cars oil consumption at an average of 1 litre every 4k or so , means its never going to be accepted for a new engine, its also acceptable to me, I don't mind that level of consumption, I dont worry about it, drive it for months without checking, and top up when it tells me to (I do , do an oil check before a track day etc, (as well as brakes tyres blar blar) the oil temps are less with a full sump, simple prudence if its going to be thrashed ;) ) the car is on 53k now, performs well, has never let me down, and (money allowing) I will be looking at engine mods at some point ;) I'm happy with it :)

shark.

edit: missed a question... when the amber light come on, I put a litre in .

Edited by sharkrider

Cheers.

It is good if the warning light or message comes on when the Oil is 1 litre below the 3.6 litres in your CTHE.

Usually it is much more oil then 1 litre below before a light shows.

How many miles between Lights showing then 4,000 miles?

Have you never had a Low Oil Pressure Warning before the Low Oil Warning Light or message?

Cheers.

never had the low pressure light..... , (dont think I'd do it this way if that ever came on) the low level light will also come on when driving, as well as on start up.... on average a litre every 4k.... on the ring trip it will go about 6k (and track season)  (before/after / during the trip is about 2500 miles, we divert etc! do laps etc ) just on driving lesson it will do about 2k.... that why I I say it uses less when driven hard, and I average about 4k a litre...

a litre will top it up just into the orange marker above max :) (cold, after a start and a look at the orange light!) oragnge lights aren't too bad, the gov will even let you use a car for driving test with an orange light on! (not a red one! lol)

Edited by sharkrider

As though the Driving test or the Department for transport know anything about how much oil is in an engine by a low oil warning light being on.

Orange Lights are bad enough in many types of engines.

(then unless you get one, you do not know it works or when.)

Like i say, if it comes on with only 1 litre low, that is great.

Many are 1.5 litres or more low and no Warning Light or message.

I don't believe it  !!!!!

Thread kicks off about the plastic under engine cover missing (or not) - AND THEN once again we are off on a further long drawn out yak about oil, oil warning lights etc etc.

Sorry, you repetitive posters are ruining this forum with your continuing rants/obsessions on the oil problem and EVERY related point. Its all been said a thousand times!

Get a grip and please DO NOT hijack every/any post - start your own thread.

Why not chill and take things less seriously.   It could be worse, it could be about Winter Tyres, or Bulbs.

Not strictly true. They can refuse to take you on test for ANY warning light that comes on. Low fuel, DPF, oil, ANYTHING, even service warning light if the examiner feels the need. Most examiners are ok, the odd few are ladies from bottoms. Not light related but I had an examiner refuse to take a candidate for test as he was TWO minutes late. Despite most examiners allowing you up to the government allowed five mins. I questioned his decision and he looked at me as if I shot his dog and told me sternly that its a DISCRETIONAL 5 mins not mandatory.

Seen a few refuse to take students due to failed bulbs etc but as with dash lights, if they don't notice it, the test will continue. Recently had some sh+te try to nick a wheel  but gave up after taking four bolts off but not able to get the locking one off. I noticed AFTER using the car for a test and hearing what I thought was brakes scraping on slowing down, during test. I examined the car and temporarily took a bolt out of the other three wheels to give me four per wheel until my new bolts turned up a few days later. You could say he let me use the car like that but I can assure you, had he seen it, he would certainly not have done. Even my five mins to swap bolts around I bet he wouldn't let me test with four per wheel and not the full five!

Anyway, they Can and most likely do refuse to take cars on test with ANY warning light, depending on if they spot it and if they care!

On a different note, Sharky, how much do you pay for insurance for your school car? I believe its a vrs is it not? Do you know the insurance group of the car too?

I ask as I have just had a renewal notice and they want NEARLY A GRAND FOR A PIDDLING 1.4 GREENLINE! I am most certainly going to be looking around prior to paying that... I may even pay a little more to a rival as I think my company is getting complacent.

Mine is a modified track going car :) front and rear anti roll bars , polybushed on front, track tyres in the summer (road legal slicks, they never complain, even with smooth slick tyre on the outside 10%, sounds like you have some picky examiners! lol) lowered on eibachs (the front valance wont clear a kerb...... sometimes they make my pupils do the speed bump runs... they have to go over VERY slowley lol) air filter , better brakes, ect ect .... I still have a 70 % pass rate, so I guess they are not too bothered what i present them with, as long as the driver is good ;)  ...... I have cameras front and back too.... they are easy with them too , even though their official line is "no recording" !! two cars ago I had a grande punto that lost hill hold ESP and ABS on a test.... they carried on and passed the pupil (had a "conversation" with me at the end about what a "hill holder" was though lol...) you are right of course, if they WANT to stop the test they will ;)

insurance? the vRS is group 29.... most wont insure me because of that alone.... the others wont because I am an EMT for the ambulance service mostly, and commute to that job in it (and want business insurance for that) , so just do about 4 hours instruction a week as a second job... whats left is 3 companies! only 2 will allow mods..... (all properly insured) and one of them is llyods latchford, great brokers.... all fully insured for everything i want, at £470 a year :)

I also use a vRS for tuition Sept 2012 registered and it was about £450 this year with Allianz through Instructor Cover+

I used to be with allianz, great company, I was with them for years until I started the mods, they wont allow mods :(

edit: got a discount this year (and changed companies) by removing "any pupil 16 or over without a license off road" from the insurance, might be worth looking at if you don't do that ....

I think the main hike here is being in London... I think they can charge what they like as lets face it, you'll soon get caught going through anpr equipment so won't last long without insurance unless the plates ar dodgy too.

I was told by one insurer they won't insure a Smart for four Brabus as it was in group 15... Too high for a school car. Glad I didn't buy it!

I think that by the time you find a specialist insurer, you're actually gonna pay LESS as they know you'll behave or the premium will ROCKET!

As for recording.. It is now allowed but without sound or filming the examiner. This is due to the data protection act.

P.S, yeah, gone off thread a bit but surely that issue got resolved any hoo-ha! How boring is a thread with wither just one defining answer or the same answer over and over again? A thread should answer an issue hopefully but what is wrong with having a conversation that goes off subject bit by bit until it is a totally different thing? This IS the nature of conversation!

still think you are being stung (although area does of course matter massively.... I live up in Cumbria, not the big smoke ...some people haven't been able to insure their vRS at all because of where they live! (not ADI's!))

give llyods latchford a call, or instructorcover+ that MilgeS uses , they are also goos (if no mods!lol)  let us know if you can get it cheaper.

you mentioned fake plates there , i was at the national meet in summer, and driving round the track at Rockingham, so I put my "show" plates on (they say sharkrider) ....

swmbo drove home...... we drove about an hour.... up the A1..... stoppped for fuel.... plates were still on! :o we didn't get stopped by the police, and no one even flashed us!  :o madness.

I like this forum!!

Banter is so easy to start!!

Anyway- back to the viscosity of oil!

What's better for triple cooked chips?

Sunflower or rapeseed?

For triple cooked, go rapeseed every time. The oil keeps its viscosity longer and doesn't taste as burnt as sunflower will over a few fry's. Thats a good chip-Oops, tip!
