No luck with new Superb :-(

Featured Replies

I despair I really do ... So last week someone runs into me in a carpark.

Been to an event this afternoon. I know it will be busy later so park in a fantastic spot where it would virtually be impossible to bash the car. Car on my left is a mate so their for the day. On my right is a path and then more parking spots.

Come back to the car to find someone parked next to me actually on the path with about a foot and a half gap between the cars.

Its a battered old Picasso with the back stoved in.

Nice big door dent on my rear passenger door where their kids have just pushed the door open.

I managed to go 5 years with my Scout with not a single car park scratch or ding.....

Really, really pi$$ed off ....

Sorry to hear that again, that's really bad luck and I know how frustrating it can be on a brand new car. Did you manage to confront the owner of the Citroen? Was any paint removed?

Really REALLY annoys me when parents of young children don't take the time to open the doors themselves to avoid things like this. I hope you hung around until the owner came back and confronted him with the damage.

When my Octavia was just a few weeks old I also "Picasso'd" by young children zooming out of the car. They have big wide rear doors. Unfortunately I knew the owner so it was difficult to confront but fortunately the damage wasn't too bad although I'm reminded of it every time I wash the car  :peek:

I had the family with me who all just wanted to get home so just left. Just had a nice big single malt.... Amazing how alcohol helps in these situations :-)

Really sorry to hear this, I've had this happen on several of my cars over the years, one new car was only 3 days old when this huge woman was between her door and the car, as she lent in her big arse hit her door and guess what, it hit mine leaving a dent, when confronted, her attitude was its just a car get over it, i was fuming, she didn't give a sh-t.

Many of us wait years to afford a new car, the cost these days is substantial, for many of us it may well be our last new car before we retire, I cannot begin to tell you what i would have done to the Picasso, lets just say they would be changing a tyre as it would not be repairable.

Nick i'd be up on a murder charge if I was in your shoes. I'm anal about where I park. Down the very end, corner spot, NEVER next to a MPV or car with child seats (even though I have 2) & if I have to park next to someone, make sure it's a well looked after car.

I remember once being in a supermarket carpark & this lady lifted her kid out of her trolley & the trolley rolled away into a parked car leaving a nasty mark on the door. She was about to get in to her car & drive off so I confronted her but she justified it by saying her hands were full with the child in her arms. I pointed out to her numerous times that you damaged that car but she couldn't see she was in the wrong & drove off. I put a short note on the windscreen of the damaged car & gave them the number plate of the culprits car. Don't know if they followed it up or not as I didn't leave my details (not getting involved) I was fuming at your one's attitude though.

You sound exactly like me and seem to park exactly as I do. Look on the bright side( I know it is hard) but the paint is still there and some dent remover will sort it for £50 or so depending on size. But like others have said the Picasso wouldn't be leaving in a rush!!!

What a load of rot for you, I've been lucky to remain dent free on my current car, but then I rarely take it to supermarket car parks on a weekend and will look out for rep wagons like Audis and BMs to park between and not family wagons.

I know it's cost and hassle but probably a debt repairer can pull it straight again so long as panel is accessible from behind.

It's going to the body shop early Jan. I'll als em to have a look at the same time :-)

This is a real problem that has affected a couple of friends of mine in recent times. Nobody (eg. police) is interested in such minor crimes. I wonder what the chances of a private prosecution in such cases would have of success? You have the registration plate (and presumably photos). Would they really deny it, I wonder? If so, what is the burden of proof?

TWL No registration details of this one. Last weeks were great people. That's all sorted.

Just after I got my last company car, I had someone go into the back of me, while waiting for a car in front to turn right. When we pulled to the side of the road, they claimed they had not done any damage, although I could see a dent in the rear bumper. They refused to give me their details, snatched the business card from me and drove off, leaving a skid mark on the grass verge.

If that was not bad enough, they then contacted the company and said I was the worst driver they had ever seen and that I had reversed into them at 28 miles an hour (Work that one out!).

I have also had another person claim that it was the wind that had caused their open door to hit my car and they were therefore not responsible.

Just hope I have better luck with the Superb when it arrives.

If it is any consolation I managed to open my wife's car door on to my own Superb and cause a nasty dent.

I got along a company that specialises in small dent repairs who said he couldn't do it because of its location on the crease of the door.

I subsequently had to get some other repairs done at a small local bodyshop and asked about the dent.

He got his own dent remover to have a look at it and he managed to remove the dent and it has now completely gone without the need for repainting.

Total cost £50.

Providing the paintwork is not damaged you can usually get dents removed seamlessly these days, but it seems some people are better at doing it than others.

You really are not having much luck - hope it's not the colour causing this?!!!

I feel your pain, the car would have come back to 2 flat tyres and a nice scratch down to metal so the rust could settle in, scum!

Why stop at two tyres..... I'd do the lot, and key every panel!

I nuked them from orbit. It was the only way to be sure ...

Whats it all about when you park right out of the way in the empty part of the car park and then you come back and find some ***** parked right up against you??

One theory is that the offending person can't park unless they have something to judge against ...

My personal theory is that these people know and understand that only totally anal, ocd types park so far away from others. They get a kick out of knowing they will have totally pi$$ed off that person so park next to them..

Guess what ! They are totally correct ! :-D

Perhaps they just thought you were from Lancashire with yer red rose :giggle:

Stop messing about this is a serious subject ..... :-D

Why don't cars come with the equivalent of yacht fenders? It should be possible to engineer something that drops rubber sheets out from near the window-entry point enough to prevent scratches/chips/minor dents. I suspect that big dents are unusual. The other option would be conspicuous security (even if it's fake) - like having a Google-style camera on your roof (only when parked, obviously).

Who'd park next to this and open their door into it?
