You don't need to worry about my U-turn!! The discount was so big (~£4-5k) that it didn't take much thinking about.

There are quite a few things on the car I was wanting anyway, DSG, Adaptive Cruise, Sat Nav etc, so while I won't be arriving at supersonic speed it certainly will be in luxury, as the Alltrack has had the parts bin thrown at it :)

If this, or another super bargain hadn't have come up, I would have almost certainly gone for another Golf R, this time with DSG :)

Anyhow, £5k saved, I've got a few holidays to come over the next 2 years. :) :) :)

Had a look around a Golf Alltrack Estate today in the VW Swindon showroom. Quite a nice package.

How you getting on with ACC? I thought I'd use it all the time, in reality rarely, as I find it too clumsy.

And of course, mpg??!

Presume you mean with the Golf, don't swap to the new one until July :) Although both have ACC.

I find ACC great, although it seems to divide opinion. If you use it with the mindset that it's not an all seeing, all doing I think it delivers better results.

I find that if you intervene with the odd throttle blip (when overtaking, closing gaps or going round left hand turning cars), and using the (+/- 5mph) to slow down more gently to fast approaching slower traffic, it can be a very effective aid.

Leave it to 'drive' itself and its just not clever enough ;)

You should easily get that even if you drive digitally.

Pretty much what I found, prodding the throttle and having to think for it means I might as well do all the driving!

999pooch,

I bet that R hatch is getting a working over before the New Passat arrives. Enjoy!!

What is the progress status.

Have you outlined your spec yet for the Passat?

Not really had much chance of late to play in the R. Mostly dashes across the M62 taking the Mrs to the eye hospital. A real pain they have introduced the Gantry level Variable speed cameras. What a ball ache! Spent more time looking at the ever changing speed limits than actually driving!

The Alltrack is a biily bear bones spec. That said the level of specification is almost identical to the R, so pretty good. Didn't want to add any extra expense to my £57.78 / month lease!!

Anyhow, all being well should arrive the same day as the R goes back in July :)

Hope the Better Half is better soon mate.

Look forward to your review of the New motor in July/ Aug.

She's fine, just had new lenses implanted. She can now see with her bionic eyes!!!

I 'll definitely put up a review. In summary it will read 'a lot slower than the R, but very comfy!!'

Fair shout 999Pooch....I've just swapped my GTD company car for a Zafira Tourer 1.6 CDTI Elite (needed a bigger car and most suitable car fleet had...beggars couldn't be choosers sadly) so could be worse than Golf R to Passat Alltrack :-)

In fairness I do quite like the Zafira as it drives far better than an MPV has any right to, its not fast but far from slow either, is stupidly versatile with all the boot space and 7 seats and I don't give two hoots about it compared to the Golf so it's proven a bit of a win win.

I envisage you'll end up with similar feelings towards the Passat!

Just got the build week through for the Alltrack.

Quote:

The latest update from the dealership indicates that your vehicle has a confirmed build week of 22 which is 30/05/16.

Once your vehicle is built it takes approximately 3-4wks to ship to the UK.

Should be perfect for my Golf R going back at the end of July :)

Nice choice mate, funny enough was looking at one of these to replace my S3. In the end I opted for the normal Passat saloon for quicker delivery

Kenny, you kept that quiet. So what model /spec is yours. Did you px the S3?

Sorry mate been tough few months. Amongst many other things we had two break in attempts for the S3. Time to go as its really shaken everyone up. Passat still nice but less attractive to thieves.

Police warned about the current faces being the small fast hatches, S3 and golf R are current favourites to name a few

R line tdi, yeah traded, got terrific trade in considering trading in first few years is worst time

Kenny, really sorry to hear about your plight mate. Hope you all feel better soon. Take care

Thanks mate. It's been far from fun and as a car person I'm gutted but young family come first.
