999Pooch's next car - Passat Alltrack 190 DSG

As far a handling goes, ithe RS3 was not a mile away from the Golf R. Similar with a slightly heavier overall feel, more than compensated by the 20% increase in power and silly noises made by the exhaust.

Still really like the R though. I was pleasantly surprised getting back in it after the RS3 and still feeling the love :)

Still feel the love in my R Estate, you would be surprised by it :http://www.evo.co.uk/videos/16456/audi-rs3-vs-volkswagen-golf-r-evo-deadly-rivals

If it's an itch you need to scratch you might as well get it over with :D You know deep down you want too and how many more years will be able to buy small cars with such lovely engines?

I genuinely don't need the space. In the last few years I can't recall a single journey where a family saloon or hatch hasn't been able.

If I go for another it will be another 5 door hatch, but will add DSG and DCC :)

Basically I'm an old lazy git :D

I had tremendous back pain in my A4- steering wheel, pedals and seats not in perfect alignment.

Nice to hear your comments mate. Sounds like you have a great next car no matter what one you choose! :)

I would agree with the seats needing to be comfortable, in any car, otherwise the driving experience soon disappears as your mind is focussed elsewhere.

It's always worth test driving different cars because you can easily rule one in or out, the seats being an example.  I often think it's like viewing houses, you're often glad to get back to the comfort of your own home!  If I were a betting man I think you'll end up with another Golf R with the DSG and DCC as you pointed out.

That's Mrs Pooch's preffered choice.

She's bored with the car choosing thing. She likes the Golf but told me to get what I like because I'll just do what I want anyway :D

I think it's a bit of reverse psychology, let me make the 'sensible' choice, rather than tell me what to do. Could backfire though if I see a good M5 deal :D

Is there such a thing as a good M5 deal?! Sometimes we want a change for change sake but it often comes back to sticking with what you know and love!  I think Mrs Pooch has a point and there'll be cash left over for other things, nice as cars are!

Aaaargh, you're sounding just like her!!! and I know she's right. Damn this reverse psychology really works :D

Ok, so close your eyes and imagine you are in the Golf R and driving about enjoying a thoroughly well sorted car. You catch sight of your reflection in the rear view mirror and see a smile on your face.

Now picture the same thing in the RS3. Is the smile bigger or smaller?

Regardless of what the keyboard warriors tell you is the best car, which one is making you smile the most?

I think I know which one would make me happiest and give me a sense of occasion when I got into it :)

Same company before Christmas was doing them at 6+23 10k @ £499+vat.

Bearing in mind the M5 is very well spec'd I could pretty much just order the base model.

If I'm honest though, I think for the miles I do it's too much.

Smaller, cheaper car = lots more holidays :)

I occasionally work with a chap who is into M5s and has a V10 version. I gamely asked how expensive was it to run (thinking perhaps  could afford a secondhand one). The cost were terrifying, especially if you drove is reasonably hard.

That's easy, the RS3 when giving some beans.

The only reason I haven't gone for it (besides the seats) is that it will probably only make up about 5-10% of my use of the car. About 90% will be the hum drum of daily commutes etc. Its a hefty premium for those few blasts.

I'm normally so decisive when choosing cars. Part of me actually thinks its because the car I've got really is the best compromise.

Best of both worlds! forking out for the deposit and finance is one thing, running costs for an M5 as a daily will be a mare.........not my money though and you only live once, you can always get another wife!

Yeah I'm kind of ruling that one out, simply because I don't need a car that big or expensive. They're are very good, cheaper alternatives which probably fit my needs better :)

I don't give my M135 beans every time I drive it, in fact at the moment it tries to bite me every time I put my foot down on the slippy cold roads :D Still makes me smile more than most of the cars I've ever owned :)

999pooch,

Got a bit fed up of looking.

Ruled the RS3 out for deffo now, nice car but rubbish value for money. Twice the price of my R for 10% more fun.

Going to look for a bargain lease deal, still got 5 months to go. Another R will be my fall back car should all else fails :)

I know the feeling! Would be interested to know how vrskeith feels about the estate R compared with the hatch, practicality aside.  Maybe an estate R for something a little different! I very much doubt there will be anything that comes close to the R in terms of performance/everday driving vs leasing cost - most bang for your buck!

Not my 1st choice, but a really cheap deal on a Scirocco Tech 280 R.

23 + 9 x £156+vat 10k / year. 2 years motoring, all in for £6k!!

The spec is pretty impressive aswell, with Discover Nav, 19" wheels, Leather etc.

Very cheap motoring, almost tempted.

999pooch,

Skoda Superb 280 4x4 next??
