Dimmer Xenons

Featured Replies

Guys, do the Xenon bulbs lose upturn as they get older?

I am sure mine are not as bright as when I first got the car, but maybe just taking them for granted!

Should read output, not upturn

They do, and generally on factory fitted you'll find they go bluer instead of a nice white light

I'd be surprised if they were starting to degrade on a 2011, how many miles has it done?

Do you have the coming / leaving home feature enabled?

The OEM xenon's on my 2008 Octavia (60,000 miles) are still brilliant.

I reckon you're just getting used to them.

Failing xenon bulbs can also go a pinky purple colour.

Thanks for the advice, will check colour.

Done 55k miles and coming home is enabled.

Also have 2009 Audi and its Xenons are not particularly impressive. This has coming home enabled but uses fog lights not headlights.

I also find that the xenons appear to get dimmer after a while however I think some of this is actually down to expectations and the fact that when you get used to them you take them for granted. If I've driven a car for a while without xenons and then get back into my own they always appear more impressive so there can a psychological element also! The light colour will change over time alright but only after a lot of use and this is usually after many years (depending on usage of course).

To ease the work of my xenons, the first thing I did with VCDS was to drop the coming home onto front fogs...

They do indeed change as they get older, however some may not notice the output change colour temperature as the bulb changes until they replace them with new ones. As the bulbs age they typically head towards the blue/purple end of the colour spectrum thus giving the appearance of less output.
