Gauges, trying to gauge interest....

Sorry...

Looking for gauges, now to me the popular choice would be a three pack, oil temp, boost, oil pressure etc...

What are peoples suggestions on the following:

Budget gauges.

Top dollar gauges.

Mounting Din versus Pillar.

Combinations to collect, eg boost, oil...

I'd love a factory looking boost gauage in the DIN slot - any info would be greatly appreciated. :)

I have been eyeing up the Autogauge gauges, like the look of them along with the angled Din Gauge panel that IP do, looks a bit better than the folded tin ones generally available. Oil temp, Pressure and boost Gauge required!

I went for mine purely because I thought they look pretty close to oem. Not flash at all. I went for the same choice of guages - oil press, oil temp and boost. Pity I never actually got to wiring the oil press guage up before it got all cold

I like.............I like a lot, where did you get them from, how do you fit etc etc... please divulge more!!!

Edit: A close up piccy would be good also please!!.

Stealth gauges..blank when ignition off but light up when ignition on....in a pod a la Scooby/Focus ST.

The DIN pod is just too low IMHO and I use the cubby anyway. Don't really like the A pillar pods....look like they will obstruct view.

Boost, oil pressure....is there an EGT gauge?

What's an EGT guage?

The guages are by 42 Draft Designs in the states and are for a Golf Mk4, but are supplied here from Ireland.

Have a look here for pics, etc : http://www.42draftdesigns.com/solutions.htm

This is the exact kit I got : http://www.autosystems.ie/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=72_73&products_id=1037

You get everything that is needed including comprehensive instructions. I can highly recommend Autosystems, they are really helpful both before and after purchase. Spoke to a guy called Trevor.

What's an EGT guage?

Exhaust gas temperature....would really only be useful for those with an EGT fitted though. Not sure there is even a gauge for this though.

I have these fitted to mine (albeit on a chavy pod) lok very good at night

EGT gauge is very useful in the right hands. You will need to fit a sensor as near as possible to the turbo on the exhaust side and will let you know how lean your fueling is. I've got one fitted in the din panel care of IP.

Dave won't be needing one them.;)

EGT all fitted up on mine.....would just need to connect the gauge up to it ...I guess.

whilst reading up on satnav units I found a site for audi/vw of a firm making led

gauges that fit into the standard instrument pod

they had boost ,air fuel ratio , volts, and some others ,a mix of 10 and 30 led gauges

unfortunately the link/url is on my work machine and im not going in till sunday evening

the other problem is that you have to dismantle the standard instrument cluster

and drill holes in the fronts of the speedo and tacho (scary time )

I like the gauges pictured above very very much!! I could easily spend far too much money on those.

I've been thinking about getting some gauges for mine. I like the look of them in FastVeRSion's Octy but I'd have thought that they are situated too low to be of any real use.

Other than gauge pods are there any other possible mounting places?

Some people fit a single gauge on a bracket on top of the dash. What would be nice would be a 3 gauge housing that you could fit to the top of the dash - in a similar way you can get a pod for Imprezas like this:

I think you get the idea

Awesome GTi have this DIN size mount for 3 gauges of your choice:

Me too!

Goochie, those are the same as mine (3 x VDO guages in a supplied DIN panel), except the choice of guages are different, but its the same kit.

I tried to take a closeup pic of mine earlier, but my phone is useless in the dark so I'll post something tomorrow...

Yeah they are a bit low. There is the option of dropping the HU lower to where the cubby is and putting the guages slightly higher, but I found they reflected the whiteness of the passenger seat when there. Even though they are low, they're still easily readable as they are very clear but you're right - you cant really drive along staring at them, I only generally glance at them anyway :)

I really really really like these.Have I missed an idea of cost? (plus fitting)Do they illuminate green?

Does anoyone know if gauges will act as a vandal/theft magnet?

The flat mount would be much better for every day reading, but IMO who's going to drive along looking at the regularly?
