My new pocket rocket

It would have been either a 2.0 PD or a CR engine

So with the dpf fitted would that be a FR ?

A lot of Ibiza I saw with dpf had the CR engine, and it's often named in the model spec.

All CR engines (I.e. not a PD engine) have a dpf fitted. But they were designed to have one in the first place.

The BLT engine doesn't have a DPF, so no regens to worry about.

Some of seat's model spec seem a bit odd, so I'm not sure. The mkI Leon had an FR spec, so if that carried through to the MkII I wouldn't have thought the initial PD ones could have had a dpf.

I think the emissions legislation they came in to work with was introduced in 2009, before that they were more common on 2.0 and above? I'll have a look at the service book, I don't think it has, think the car is that little bit too old for it.

I think some manufacturers fitted them voluntarily. As an example, my Mk2 Octavia was an 06 Vrs and even though not required by law, VAG decided to fit them.

Sweet. There's certainly nothing in the service book that suggests it. I like this car more every day at the moment.

I'm sure that some certain combinations of car and engine ended up needing a dpf in order to meet the Euro IV limits. This included the vRS, Scout and 4x4 Octavias as well as some superbs.

This was also why the vRS got the CR engine ahead of other spec Octavias.

I think it was getting up to the limits. Loads of people have removed dpf's from pd vrs's and still pass smoke tests for the m.o.t. No emmissions for diesels.

MoT requirements and European emissions legislation have no connection.

The same limits apply to diesel engines regardless of what euro criteria the car is required to meet.
