Hi, my future son in law purchased a new Fabia two weeks ago and had a puncture within a few days. Replaced with the space saver and took the damaged tyre for repair. On taking the tyre off the wheel the garage found debris from the Skoda factory inside the tyre, the puncture was from inside to out! Anyone else had this problem? He's flagged it up to Skoda who are going to give him out of pocket expenses.

so what exactly caused the puncture? 

We think the thing that looks like a cigarette, it's actually a piece of metal. The other stuff was all soft. It looks like the factory workers used the tyre as a waste bin before fitting to the wheel. The dusty looking debris is bit's of tyre rubber scrapped off the inside of the wheel. It couldn't be repaired, a new tyre had to be fitted. 

You couldn't make it up!

Hopefully the replacement tyre get paid for as well as the out of pocket expenses.

We would regularly get sent over to cannibalise parts from decommissioned Ships that were being sent for scrap. We would find old tools, discarded waste, magazines, books, newspapers et al that could only have gotten there from when the Ship was in build or when the equipment was fitted later. 

 

James Rupert from Autocar wrote an article about buying vehicles from police auctions, and how one of his colleagues found cartons of cigarettes hidden in the tyres. 

 

Talk about smoking tyres.... 

Mate works for Bosnian Border Police, they stopped the car last year on the Bosnia/Croatia border. Reg pinged on ANPR as previously stopped car for different offences. They checked the car over and absolutely clean/nothing found, girl driver in a shortest mini skirt and high heels as a decoy charming the Officers and giggling. He though this is well strange and called the dog unit. To cut long story short, they found 100.000€ in tyres (all 500€ notes).

 

Imagine that this car came for auction and some lucky person went to fit a new tyres to Kwik Fit, hahhaha.

Really starting to think Skoda is going downhill on quality control.

A car we sold in a customs auction still had some drugs concealed in it !  Fortunately new owner returned it to us.  Car had more than one stash on it!

Before I bought my vehicle in 2010 I was informed by one dealership that Škoda was so focused on quality and customer care they wouldn't allow Arnold Clark a franchise. 

 

Now they run 3 dealerships. 

 

On a personal level, my vehicle is the most adaptable and capable vehicle I've ever owned. 

 

However, this has been offset by the worst manufacturer and dealerships I've ever had the misfortune to experience.

The tyre will have been fitted to a wheel before delivery to the factory.

The small black bits are from the Inside sidewall where the car has been driven with not enough air in the tyre.

Was there any evidence of a puncture repair in the tyre?

Is there a hole in the tyre?

I would suggest that the tyre has been removed/refitted since leaving the factory.

The drugs.

Car is auctioned with no return policy.

Same for yachts and other seized items.

Drugs are incinerated.

Well, it wasn't a "brand new car", but a tyre fitter mate of mine once had a car come in with the owner complaining that "this rumble started when I got a new tyre from $fast_fit_place. I would have come to you but you don't stock this size". Investigation found a large, and pretty new, set of pliers in the tyre (and I know because I was actually there).
