My new pocket rocket

Featured Replies

Ok so the time came for a new car (the Saab being a bit of a stop-gap) and a return to VAG.  I couldn't be bothered to think of a new user name for the forum so.......

Verdict so far...very impressed, proper hot hatch.  It's the FR TDI PD 130, totally standard and very clean on 93k (2008).  My reasoning is that if I get the job I'm hoping for I'll be shuttling up and down to Swansea, about 1.5-2 hours away.  I did fancy a Furby but for the same money (slightly more in fact) they were coming in a little older (06 and 07) and not as clean, and to be honest I find the Seat a little more sporty and aggressive, a bit firm for some but it's fine for me, it is a bit of a blast it has to be said.  I shall still be largely in this forum but will also be floating around the Furby section.

The Mk1 only went up to 2007 sadly before no more diesel vRS :( Which engine code does it have? When are you getting it remapped? See you in the Mk1 Furby section

I have done a similar thing recently and got a wee late 2006 BLT

Should be a BLT from factory iirc

I'll double check the engine code next time I'm under the bonnet, I've literally only looked under for inspection thus far. FUBAR I was sorely tempted with an 07 special edition in blue, but it had more miles and was more money. I also had some constraints from the finance company and 07 cars were the kind of borderline. The newer car also lowered the APR so all in all, pretty happy.

Not sure about a remap yet, not even sure I'd be allowed, think I'll wait until the finance term ends and go nuts. For now I just want to keep it standard and clean.

I do have a soft spot for a yellow furby. I think this is a similar shade, not sure on the code yet. It's a lot deeper than the octy lemon yellow was, this is proper yellow.

These are a good 100kg lighter than the Furby IIRC, which makes them feel very nippy. That one looks like it has the winter pack on it?

I very nearly bought a 5 door (fairly rare) 2008 model TDI 130 in white, but ended up in an 2007 Fabia vRS (not SE). The ibiza has steering wheel audio controls and 17" wheels and they do look more sporty.

It does feel light on its feet, just need to be aware of that nosing it into corners as it puts more bias on the front. What were the winter pack options? The audio controls and 17s are a nice touch.

It is a BLT by the way, just seen the code on some Seat service paperwork.

It might not be called winter pack, a quick google found this on seatcupra:

Luxury Pack 1
Rain sensor
Anti dazzle rear view mirror
Height adjustable front seats (with Access Plus on 3 door)
MP3 compatible CD player with steering-wheel mounted audio controls Volumetric alarm with back-up horn

Luxury Pack 2
Rain sensor
Anti dazzle rear view mirror
Headlamp washer
Heated windscreen washer nozzles
Heated door mirrors with park position

Luxury Pack 3 - the convenience pack
Cruise control
Heated door mirrors with park position
Curtain airbags

Only the Lux pack 2 and Lux pack 3 are available on Fr, But most of the Lux Pack 1 comes standard with the Fr.

They have climate control instead of the normal a/c on the Fabia.

Edit: just found an August 2006 Ibiza facelift brochure under my bed and the above is correct. Also the 3 door kerbweight is only 1180kg on 1.9 TDI FR

Thanks for that, yes it appears I have pack 1 and 2, everything but cruise control and curtain airbags. Just sorted the headlamp washers today, o/s was catching on its way back in and remaining sticking out, bit of wd40 on the washer arm and bumper flap, sorted.

Hello buddy thought I'd pop in for a chat. Hope everyone is well in the mk1 world. I miss my mk1!! Nice little car buddy i too have recently became a Seat driver. The diesel is no more! Gone back to petrol. I'm a bit behind here, what happened to your Octavia?

I have always liked them

:)

This is my new motor. Love Skoda's but tbh too many forced regens + short journeys just wasn't the right car. The Leon is the perfect size too.

Hello mate, nice motor, I was also looking at Leons which would probably have been a wee bit more practical with the kids but for the last few months it only ever seems to be me and the boy in my car. Being in Wales I'm able to give this FR the runs it needs to keep it clean and I needed something more economical than the Aero!

I do miss my mk1 Octy but a sequence of issues rendered it economically nonsensical to continue with it. A developing gearbox issue was the last straw. To be honest I missed the Toledo V5 more than I miss the octy, think I must be a Seat fan after all.

That's a shame about your Octavia really nice car that. I'm happy with the Leon buddy i love driving it. Stiff set up compared to the mk2 Octavia but it really does handle. I went back to petrol, this one is the FR 2.0 tfsi 200bhp. Goes well. Possible remap new year but it won't be getting much done.

I bet it does go well mate that. Seat do always seem pretty stiff, which I like, the Ibiza is very taught and responsive. I'd like to get this remapped, can see it would be a little beasty with a map on it but for now I'm tied up with warranty and GAP insurance and such. To be honest it's quite nice to have a standard car and not be thinking or worrying about mods. I've been a bit unlucky with cars lately, hopefully this will restore some faith.

Yes you have had some bad luck my friend and hopefully you've found a goodun. It looks a nice car. So, does the Ibiza have the same engine as the Fabia Vrs? They go really well. I drove two of them before deciding the boots were just a tad too small for the family holiday. The big thing was the lack of dpf's on those. What a p.i.t.a they are!!

It's the BLT engine which the Fabia changed over to at some point, so yes same as the later model VRS (2004 on I think though I may be wrong). Apparently the BLT is a little fruitier than the ASZ it replaced. I have heard of the DPF issues, does mine definitely not have one? To be honest I'm unsure but with the type of driving I do I wasn't too concerned about it. For a diesel it seems very clean and I love the 6 speed gearbox, it still feels really smooth, yet still tight and positive. Plus it had a cambelt in 2013 and a service with glow plugs this year.

The old pd diesel and dpf's never really mated together very well so hopefully the Ibiza doesn't have one. I know the Fabia never got one. Non dpf, 1.9 pd imho was the best diesel vag ever made. Downhill after that!!

The pd engine does have a justifiably good reputation. I'll check up on the dpf, it mentions them in the handbook and the newer ibiza (2009/10) with smaller engine I was looking at does have them (glad I didn't get one, very frugal but probably too boring for me). Hopefully these missed out. I can't remember whether that warning light is on my dash display, don't think it is.

There was a code stamped in the service book on the Octavia to signify wether one was fitted or not. Maybe the Ibiza was the same? However, if it has one, good oppo to get it taken off and a remap!!

Pretty sure vag never fitted a dpf to any 1.9 PD engine.

Yeah i thought that too but a workmate of mine had a mk2 Leon diesel up until last year. He sold it because as he says the dpf kept regening. Never asked if it was the 1.9 or the 2.0 tdi.

It would have been either a 2.0 PD or a CR engine

I think the emissions legislation they came in to work with was introduced in 2009, before that they were more common on 2.0 and above? I'll have a look at the service book, I don't think it has, think the car is that little bit too old for it.

A lot of Ibiza I saw with dpf had the CR engine, and it's often named in the model spec.
