Monte carlo 1.2 105bhp

Featured Replies

What are these actually like to drive/own? I've had a 1.9tdi mk2 fabia (57plate) and also a 57 plate octavia 1.9tdi. Im looking to go back to something smaller and I think I'm getting a good deal on this mote carlo direct from skoda warrington. But I just want some people actual reviews before I press ahead. Thanks

Great car, Basically a standard 105 BHP Fabia but with stiffer, but not back breaking suspension and 17 inch wheels, firmer bucket seats with higher sides that actually hold you quite well and the leather wheel, gearstick and handbreak cable. Also the black on the outside.

I have a 1.2 TSI 105 and think it's great, swapped up from a 1.2 HTP 60 standard Fabia and the difference is unbelievable.

A few people have reported their Montes pulling to one side, mine doesn't but it's something to look for on the test drive. Good bet though is to get yourself a pair of uprated headlight bulbs.

Hate to be anal, but they are actually 105 PS not BHP. Roughly 100 BHP, so neglible difference. Great little car anyway. I downsized from a Golf GTI and although it's in a different league, I was pleasantly surprised how pokey a little 1.2 can be! Can't really fault it other than the erratic multitude of rattles!

That's funny I've never had a single rattle except for when I trapped something in the glovebox lock *doh*

As I said I have the 1.2 tsi SE and can only praise it, the engine is nippy when needed, quiet (but sounds nice when you do hear it haha), the ride is smooth though I can imagine that's bettered by the stiffer suspension I believe is standard on the monte.

What's it like on motorway driving? Do about 20k a year mileage, all mostly motorway.

You had best try one on an extended drive and decide yourself, only you know what you like,

it is just a Fabia after all and it drives like a Fabia but on 205/40 R 17 tyres, unless you maybe change to 16's.

Sorry to be just as anal...but 105ps is 103.56bhp! Barely any difference though and when I last dyno'ed a 1.2 105ps engine it was producing 107ps on a well calibrated dyno. That's not uncommon for a well run in VAG engine.

Haha fair enough! But yes I know that manufacturers power claims aren't always correct to start with. I have seen several mentions on here that people claim their standard 1.2tsi engines are putting out well in excess of 105ps.

The manufacturers figures are 'minimum' based on what you will get in many World Regions in possibly less than perfect conditions,

Ambient Temps, Altitude and Fuels.

So in the UK at under 35*oC and above -20*oC at less than 3,500 feet above sea level and on 95 Ron as a Minimum & possibly 97/99 ron

you are going to be getting at least the Minimum or something is far wrong.

My monte was fine on the motorway, never had a problem. It would sit well at speeds around 70-80mph. I didn't find the 17s a problem, not too noisy and well planted. If you do lots of motorway miles and like cruise control I would certainly get that fitted. With the amount and type of miles you do would you not consider the 1.6 diesel?

Some about online have been clocked anywhere between 102 and 120! All I know is it feels nippy when you need it too!

Motorway driving a breeze, nice ride (as i've said before I'm sure the firmer monte suspension will yield slightly better handling except I'm not sure if this will make it more comfortable - have been a passenger in a car with 'sports suspension' and it was less than comfortable, depends on your taste i guess.

The 1.2 tsi has enough oomph to make overtaking a breeze when you feel the need, otherwise cruising is nice and quiet and a good solid ride. If you're going to be doing lots of motorway driving have you considered the diesel? May be a bit better on the old wallet. Having said that between 60-70mph i get around ~45mpg.

they aren't even that.

quite a few standard ones have been dyno'd at 120bhp, straight from the factory.

i found the Monte abit crashy compared to the standard models.

Not always a bad thing, it depends on your taste.

Well that's for all your help. I've gone and bought it and am collecting it on Saturday.

But with regards to the spare tyre, My octavia has 17" spare and I'm guessing the mante has a tin of run flat. How would it be seen if I was to keep my octavia spare? I don't like the thought of a tin of run flat.

It's being px with the dealer and I'm guessing it's just going through the auction as it's a old model.

I bet the Octy uses a higher profile tyre than the Fabia, and its also maybe wider?

The Fabia will be running 205 40 R17's tyre size.

Id take it out of the Octy (well, they wont give you any more for it on trade-in, will they?) put it on ebay, then with the money you get for that, but a steel for the Fabia.

I think the Fabia spares are all 195 55 R15 steels (same radius at the 17's due to the deeper profile)

You've got it, I'd go on eBay and get an identical sized steel :) or if you're really pushing the boat out an identical alloy with tyre

What size is the 17" on the monte?

And what about the locking nut? Shall I just take the tyre or all the stuff in the centre part also?

Id leave the locking nut.. but its up to you. Ive been in houses where the previous owners have taken all the light bulbs with them.. i imagine the car trade is similar :D

Yeah as soon as I posted that I noticed you'd already said.

You say you're guessing the Monte doesn't have a spare. So why not ring them up and ask them?

Might aswel save and sell the Octy spare one anyway though :D
