w10 - giving it away hasn't worked ?

10 years ago, my Uni course tutors "indulgently" gave me a weeks extension on my coursework, after I "claimed" malware had destroyed much of the work, including back-ups. A few days later, the Uni and college systems went down with the same malware - and it took them to the end of the term (7weeks including 1/2 term), to fix it; even the photocopiers were offline.

20+c years ago, I had a similar problem as documented  . Later in the year, my years work was destroyed by a virus on one of their so called non HD PC. I recreated the last years work, but this time, I backed it up on a PC, BUT I used virus checking /detecting software. And once more, the college used my free MacaFEE  floppy, and lo & behold, PC's with viral infections on HD showed up.

 

BUT- today, there was an article on Yaho news on how W10 spies on th user, which suddenly vanished.

Windows Defender probably labelled it as a virus and deleted it.
